Casey Hudson departed BioWare last year and he is officially confirming the launch of a new independent studio known as Humanoid Studios.

Casey Hudson left BioWare last year when he stepped down as General Manager of the studio. Many fans of his work on Mass Effect wondered where Hudson would end up and he has officially confirmed that he's opening a new studio.

Mass Effect director Casey Hudson departed BioWare last year shortly after the Dragon Age 4 reveal. Hudson recently confirmed on his official Twitter that he has been working with some colleagues on a new development studio known as Humanoid Studios. It's currently unclear if Dragon Age 4 executive producer Mark Darrah who departed around the same time will be one of the aforementioned colleagues.

The team is currently hiring for several positions such as senior gameplay programmer, senior gameplay designer, director of operations, senior creative director, environment artist, senior level designer, and a 3D artist. While many roles are listed on the studios' website, some roles may already be filled. These developers will also be offered creative freedom, something that's more common in the independent level of game design that Humanoid Studios will inhabit.

The official website for the studio is pretty minimal but it suggests that Casey Hudson is looking for a team that will combine excellence in the arts. It mentions "advanced sciences" which will help Humanoid Studios deliver interactive new IP. Many BioWare games innovated significantly with interactive RPGs and Hudson may bring some of what he learned with BioWare to his new studio.

According to Casey Hudson, this is the first tiny step in the Humanoid Studios journey. The former Mass Effect director is currently only able to discuss minor details about the new studio, but his announcement emanates enthusiasm. Hudson caused a lot of speculation when he departed BioWare last year, but it's clear that he's found a new project to work on. While Casey Hudson was with BioWare for the announcement of Dragon Age 4, the last major project that he worked on that saw the light of day was Anthem.

While Casey Hudson stopped short of confirming BioWare veteran Mark Darrah as part of the Humanoid Studios, it's possible that he may be joining his former colleague in making independent games. The official Humanoid Studios website mentions talented developers from around the world and Hudson specifically mentions colleagues in his Twitter post so some familiar faces may be on board. Since the studio is just getting started, it will likely be awhile before Humanoid Studios announces its first IP.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition is available right now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
