The first ever WitcherCon kicks off in just over a week, but fans will have to be content with news about the Netflix show and other adaptations.

Plenty of heads turned when CD Projekt Red announced that the first ever WitcherCon would take place this July. Fans of the games, the Netflix series, and any of the myriad other arms of the Witcher franchise immediately began to wonder what reveals this brand new event could bring with it. Many of those questions are now answered with the recent publication of the full schedule for the digital convention, though anyone hoping for the announcement of a new game is likely to be disappointed.

WitcherCon 2021 promises a cornucopia of interesting segments for the event, including deep dives into the making of the games and the Witcher Netflix series, and panels with cast and production team members. But the organizers have made one thing crystal clear on the official website for anyone holding a hopeful flame for a new Witcher title on next-gen consoles. "In case you're wondering," the line in question reads, "no new Witcher game will be announced at WitcherCon, but there are still lots of reasons to tune in!"

So while CD Projekt Red still hasn't ruled out the possibility of starting work on The Witcher 4, it appears that there will be no news on that front at WitcherCon. Still, there will be plenty to keep avid Witcher fans occupied, from deep dives into the lore of the series to panels featuring stories from the development of the various adaptations.

It is perhaps not that surprising that CD Projekt Red have chosen to keep its cards fairly close to its chest with regards to a new game in the series. After the debacle that was the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, the company may feel as though it should tread carefully going forward in order to maintain the good will it's managed to recapture from its fans. Considering that development on a new game, given CDPR's difficult 2021, wouldn't even be starting until next year, it's unlikely that the company has much to show for the idea at present. As such, it may have decided that a vague or lukewarm announcement at WitcherCon could do more harm than good.

Nevertheless, there's still plenty to glean from the WitcherCon schedule, especially for fans of the Netflix series or anyone looking forward to the upcoming anime movie, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. The convention is even streaming on two separate days, with some slightly different panels each day, so anyone hoping to spend a weekend looking dreamily into Henry Cavill's eyes should check it out on July 9th and 10th on Netflix, YouTube, and Twitch.

WitcherCon 2021 will run from July 9th-10th 2021 on Netflix, YouTube, and Twitch.
