For the first time, Candy Crush Saga collaborates with Space Jam: A New Legacy to bring a story mode involving the Tune Squad.

During Candy Crush Saga's long-lasting run on mobile platforms, like many other mobile games, there are events for players to gain tons of rewards for a limited time. As a first for the app game, Candy Crush Saga is enlisting help from another beloved franchise, namely Space Jam to promote the new movie in a crossover event.

For Candy Crush, almost all of its events have been exclusively for itself in-game, giving players chances to earn things such as screen-clearing items and discounts for premium currency. The new event, starting July 6 as Space Jam: A New Legacy hits theaters, will run for about two weeks.

According to press releases regarding the event, the crossover will feature a small story of sorts involving basketball star Lebron James gathering members of the Tune Squad and freeing them from the gum they're trapped in across the candy kingdom. Available to all players past level 25, the catch with the crossover is that Lebron has been "candified" as part of his entrance to the Candy Crush world.

For the players eager to experience it, many rewards will be offered such as the usual Candy Crush Saga power-ups, as well as "exclusive new film content" for Space Jam: A New Legacy according to the event information. There will also be a Space Jam-themed season pass available to purchase in the side title Candy Crush Soda Saga, letting players collect basketballs on levels to unlock further rewards in that game if they would like.

While it is a rather bizarre crossover, it promises to bring plenty of fun events to the famous mobile game. With millions of players worldwide, the event may bring in even more, or invite more casual players to check in to join Lebron James on his new candified adventure with the Tune Squad.

A crossover collaboration event is still rather new to the game, and how it is to be received by fans remains to be seen. The event is only scheduled to be available on the mobile title for about two weeks and said to be a one-off event, so it's unlikely that it will ever return to the game. For those uninterested, the event seems to be optional. With this being the first of its kind, though, players may not have long to wait for another crossover event to interest them as Candy Crush Saga expands its reach even further.

Candy Crush Saga is available on Android and iOS devices, with the crossover event with Space Jam: A New Legacy starting on July 6th.
