Insomniac Games releases the latest patch for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, bringing dozens of bug fixes and a setting to boost FPS on certain TVs

Insomniac Games just released patch 1.002 for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. The update included a wide variety of primarily minor tweaks and improvements to the PlayStation 5 Exclusive. Among them is a system that boosts the games frame rate on certain TVs.

The update lets the player choose to enable 120 Hz Fidelity Mode on Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. The Fidelity Mode supported a 120 Hz refresh rate at launch, but Insomniac removed the feature due to compatibility issues. Now, players with compatible TVs can boost their game’s performance to 40 frames per second.

Typically, Fidelity Mode prioritizes visual effect over performance by locking the game at 30 FPS. Players can now choose to enable 120 Hz Fidelity Mode in the game’s graphical settings, boosting the fps to 40 FPS though they’ll need a 120 Hz TV to get any benefits. The most notable of which that Rift Apart looks significantly smoother on Fidelity Mode. The game’s Performance Mode still offers the smoothest experience, but the new update closes the gap. Players will also experience reduced latency and thus more responsive controls from 120 Hz Fidelity Mode.

While that’s the most noticeable change to Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, it’s not the only one. Players now have the option to disable Phantom Dash VFX in all gameplay or Photo Mode specifically. Patch 1.002 also adds a new Sticker, colored backgrounds, and the ability to hide armor in Photo Mode. Additionally, players can now disable level-up messages and bind “skip cutscenes” to the cross button.

The recent update also includes a large number of bug fixes. Most are relatively minor, but there are a few that stand out. For example, the developer fixed the bug where the player could complete the same Glitch Challenge twice, locking them out of later challenges. Insomniac also resolved issues where killing certain Grunthor enemies would not count towards the Extinction Event trophy. The studio also fixed several common physics, animation, interface, and audio glitches.

Patch 1.002 is undoubtedly comprehensive, resolving more than two dozen bugs and glitches from Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. However, the 120 Hz Fidelity Mode setting is the most significant addition. But, again, it’s only applicable with TVs that have a 120 Hz refresh rate. It probably isn’t a big enough boost to make players buy a new Sony TV if they weren’t going to already. But gamers with state-of-the-art screens will notice the upgrade when running the game in Fidelity Mode.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is available for the PlayStation 5.
