As part of the July showcase for Dying Light 2, Techland releases a new trailer for the game that showcases sleeping zombie enemies.

About six years from the first release, Dying Light 2 fans are finally seeing some more news on what the next title will entail. While it isn't fully clear if Dying Light 2 is a direct sequel, there is still a lot to be excited about.

As part of a July showcase for Dying Light 2 put on by Techland, there is a lot more information about the open-world environment the game takes place in, known simply as "The City." Not only that, but there is also a new trailer released today showcasing some of the horrifying zombie residents within the game.

The trailer showcases the main protagonist of Dying Light 2, Aiden Caldwell, during a stealth mission set in an abandoned hospital filled with zombies. These sleeping zombies, nicknamed in the trailer as "Sleeping Beauties," are crouched on the ground in a dormant state and will attack if provoked by fast movement, loud noises, or getting too close in proximity.

While it wasn't discreetly explained, it appeared that these Sleeping Beauties were also triggered whenever the protagonist shined his flashlight on them for too long. In the trailer, there are other types of zombies that were also displayed but were not given a specific name. One appeared to be a zombie brute with hulking biceps, a puking zombie that will most likely have a spitting attack, and a huge white zombie that appears to be the group's alpha.

At the end of the trailer, Aiden is betrayed by the man who brought him to the hospital. The man puts an item on his wrist and christens Aiden as a citizen of Villedor. This wristband then makes a loud beeping sound after it detects that Aiden will turn into a zombie, forcing him to run past the long maze of Sleeping Beauties he just carefully navigated through. In the end, Aiden makes it outside safely, but not before one last confrontation with the alpha zombie.

The description for the trailer describes the setting of the game taking place 20 years after the first game, after a failed attempt to contain the virus in Harran. Gamers will play as Aiden, a man hoping to learn about troubling memories from the past he can't quite understand. The video also states that Dying Light 2 is set to release on December 7 of this year. Fans interested can also pre-order Dying Light 2 to receive an exclusive pre-order bonus outfit with a matching backpack and melee weapons.

Dying Light 2: Stay Human launches December 7 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
