Destiny 2 developer Bungie details updates coming to the game ahead of the Solstice of Heroes event, which includes a nerf to a popular PvE weapon.

Destiny 2 has announced the next series of changes that will be patched into the game ahead of its 2021 Solstice of Heroes event. A noteworthy change sees one of Destiny 2's most popular weapons for PvE modes having a nerf coming its way.

Weapon balancing updates are nothing new to Destiny 2, and its most recent season, Season of the Splicer, brought some sweeping weapon changes to Destiny 2. At the time of those changes, Bungie said that there would likely be further tweaking to weapon balance in Destiny 2 as the developers figured out what roles they wanted the game's various weapon types to fill, and the game's newest patch sees some of those further changes.

One weapon that is being singled out for a nerf is Destiny 2's exotic grenade launcher, Anarchy. Anarchy has been favored by players for high-end PvE content such as Destiny 2's raids for a long time now, and Bungie is looking to change that. In the patch notes Bungie does not list the specific changes that are heading Anarchy's way, but it does say that Anarchy has been too universal for too long. The developers say that the changes will focus on making Anarchy excel at just a couple of roles rather than filling all of the roles players are looking for in a PvE exotic.

While the patch notes do not list the specific changes coming to Anarchy in the patch, it does dive into other changes that are coming to grenade launcher weapons as a whole. Bungie's last pass at weapon balance saw shotguns getting a substantial buff that led to them being used much more frequently, so they are getting a pretty big nerf this time around.

The post says that Bungie expects this to lead to Destiny 2's various grenade launchers being used across the game more frequently, so it will be adjusting priming and target clean-up across the weapon class. These changes will likely impact Anarchy as well, but the gun will surely see further nerfs in addition to the general ones.

It is good to see Bungie continue to fine-tune the weapon balancing of Destiny 2 to keep players adjusting their builds and striving for new gear. Hopefully, the weapon tweaks that the developers have planned land well with the community as Destiny 2 gears up for the Solstice of Heroes event. It is a bit odd that the developers are nerfing shotguns right before players can earn the limited-time Compass Rose shotgun during the Solstice of Heroes, but it should help mix up the meta in PvE activities for a while.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
