A rumor indicates something big could be happening for Sony and the PS platform in July, with the 6th being one indicator of its legitimacy.

With E3 season over, Nintendo and Xbox fans seem to be eating good for the rest of the year. One demographic went without again, though, and that was the Sony fan. Sony hasn't attended E3 in quite some time, and it seems unlikely to ever return. Instead, though, it seems more reliant than ever on State of Plays to communicate important video game information to fans. This is partially why the rumors of a State of Play on July 8 seem so legit; it's more than time for one.

Notably, though, it helps pinpoint when fans should expect to learn about the next one. Every State of Play in 2021 so far has followed a pattern of sorts, which indicates when fans should know whether the rumored event is true or not.

Thus far, there have been three State of Plays this year. February 25 featured several games including Returnal and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, April 29 featured Ratchet and Clank, Among Us, and Subnautica, and May 27 focused on Horizon Forbidden West. Each of these events took place on a Thursday, and the time span fits for a new State of Play to take place soon as well. However, the most important detail to aid the legitimacy of the July 8 date is not what happens that Thursday, but what may happen that Monday (July 5) or is more likely to happen on Tuesday (July 6).

The February 25 State of Play was announced on February 23, the April 29 presentation was announced on April 26, and the May 27 one was revealed on May 25. While fans may agonize over the weekend hoping this is actually happening next week, its announcement will be the first confirmation that the rumors have some kernel of truth to them. As it stands, Sony has announced 2021 dates the Tuesday before twice and the Monday before once, meaning that Tuesday is the most likely reveal date for July's rumored State of Play. If Monday passes by, fans shouldn't worry too much since that seems to be less favored, but if it isn't announced Tuesday, then it would be a safe bet this particular event like other State of Play rumors before it was fake.

For many, of course, the big question is not when they'll know if the rumors are legit, but what they'll see at the next State of Play. Rumors suggest a big surprise will be there, which may have taken as the next God of War appearing at the State of Play, but fans should keep expectations in check. With everything from Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut and Deathloop to Ghostwire: Tokyo and Stray set to release this fall, there's no shortage of known or unknown games that could appear.

A State of Play is rumored to take place on July 8.
