Following the game's 1st anniversary, Naughty Dog discreetly releases new update patch 1.09 for The Last of Us Part 2 this month.

Fans have held The Last of Us 2's narrative in contention due to controversies about certain characters' actions. But from a technical perspective, The Last of Us 2 achieves an impressive graphical fidelity using motion-capture performances and detailed environments. Nonetheless, bugs and glitches are arguably unavoidable in many expansive games, and the most that talented developers can do is work to eliminate them over time after the game has launched.

Being exclusive to Sony PlayStation, The Last of Us 2 released on PS4 and was given an eventual next-generation upgrade on PS5. The Last of Us 2's PS5 enhancement brought with it a 60 frames-per-second improvement, making visuals and framerates much smoother. Recently, a new update has been integrated into the game. As reported by MP1st, The Last of Us Part 2 has released a relatively small update patch, coming in at 96MB.

However, fans may consider stifling any immediate speculation as to new additions to the game. Update 1.09 only features a few minor fixes to The Last of Us Part 2, and details around which fixes are implemented have yet to be disclosed. MP1st reports that the PS4's update history makes a general note of "bug fixes and improvements" and a fix for an in-game timer that had issues while players were playing The Last of Us 2 in 60fps. These issues and repairs are seemingly trivial overall. But fans may be interested to hear that Naughty Dog is still continuing to iron out technical issues of any size.

Naughty Dog developers recently shared the intensive work that went into overhauling realistic eyes in The Last of Us 2. Rather, fans have wondered when another announced feature would have been given more information. The original Last of Us game had a standalone multiplayer mode, titled Factions. It was previously stated that The Last of Us 2 had plans to accompany the game's single-player experience with a multiplayer mode. It is unclear whether this multiplayer mode would have been similar to Factions from The Last of Us, or entirely an restructured experience.

Following the game's first anniversary last month, fans have been excited to hear more news about The Last of Us 2's supposed multiplayer experience. Unfortunately for fans, this update does not confirm or tease speculation about an upcoming multiplayer mode being added to the game. While the specific bugs that this update fixes are not explicitly addressed, it is likely that the update patch is only meant to stabilize a number of performance issues that many players would not otherwise notice.

The Last of Us Part 2 is available now on PS4.
