A Redditor shares the story of their grandpa's first playthrough of the Mass Effect franchise, which they apparently loved a lot.

Video games have become one of the most popular forms of entertainment out there, offering users a chance to immersive themselves in the story of an entirely different world. That's simply something that wasn't possible a few decades ago, and, therefore, entire generations missed out on the fun. However, some members of prior generations are getting in on the hobby, including one grandpa that apparently enjoyed Mass Effect quite a bit.

Over on Reddit, user StormRaider2000 shared a story about their grandfather's experience playing through the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition for the first time. The user specifically gave a shout-out to Mass Effect's narrative modes, which made it easier for their grandpa to play through the game and make choices. According to StormRaider2000, the playthrough was apparently the most fun their grandfather had had in decades.

Like many of the franchise's fans, StormRaider's grandpa enjoyed Mass Effect's decision making and narrative far more than he enjoyed the combat sequences. The Mass Effect games have been hailed for their storytelling ability and displaying the consequences of a player's actions, so it's understandable that anyone would be able to find something to enjoy with it.

Apparently, the grandpa even had a "pimp" playthrough of the game, with StormRaider2000 stating that their grandfather explored a number of Mass Effect's romance options during his time with it. Romance is intrinsically linked to Mass Effect's storyline, though it is a bit of a hilarious situation to consider at all.

StormRaider2000 says that he'll bring along The Witcher 3 for his grandpa to play next time, though he's a bit worried about the disparity between difficulty modes in that game. Even The Witcher 3's easiest mode might end up being a bit of a challenge for those that aren't familiar with the hobby, so it'll be interesting to see how the playthrough shakes out. Apparently, StormRaider2000 had considered making his grandpa play Red Dead Redemption 2, but wanted something that afforded more choices.

The conversation surrounding video game accessibility has evolved a lot in the past few years, largely thanks to people with disabilities moving the conversation forward. Luckily, things like narrative modes make it easier for a broader spectrum of gamers to play games, though there's still plenty of work left to do before things are all the way there. However, it's always nice to hear stories like this one, as more people enjoying games is great for the industry.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
