The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild players discover a glitch that allows them to earn a Master Sword right after the Great Plateau.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild may be over four years old now, but fans of the action-adventure game are still discovering new things. The latest discovery isn't an intentional part of the game, however. Once again, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild speedrunners have broken the game in an exciting new way. The latest Breath of the Wild glitch allows players to pull the Master Sword extremely early, plus it's very easy to do.

The recently discovered Master Sword glitch allows Breath of the Wild players to immediately go to the sword and pull it, once they've completed the Great Plateau tutorial area. There are just two things that the player needs to take with them. The first is a piece of wood, and the second is a fire source, like a fire arrow or fire-imbued sword. After that, it's just a matter of getting to the Master Sword, through the Lost Woods, without dying.

Once the player has guided their 3-heart Link to the Master Sword at the heart of the Lost Woods, wood and fire source in-hand, the rest is simple. First, stand close to the sword, within range of being able to pull it. Then, place the wood on the ground in front of Link and light it on fire. This should make a campfire. Before using the campfire to "sleep" until morning, look directly up into the sky. Once the screen goes dark, mash the "A" button, and when the player gets control back, they'll get the Master Sword.

Technically, this isn't recognized as correctly earning the Master Sword in-game. For example, the free inventory slot won't be unlocked. Players will still have the Master Sword, but the game won't think the player has it. Players can still complete the quest as normal later, though, once they've acquired the necessary 13 hearts.

Earning the Master Sword this way doesn't technically unlock anything for the player. It doesn't even help speedrunners of Breath of the Wild particularly much, since they're already going straight to Ganon in their speedruns. For Breath of the Wild players who are just having fun and goofing around, being able to get the Master Sword right off the plateau is still an exciting possibility.

There are a lot of odd, exciting glitches in Breath of the Wild. Wind bombs that launch the player through the air, "Super Menu Overload" that breaks the game in assorted ways, and many other glitches seemingly discovered month to month. But this Master Sword glitch is special in a unique way. Not only does it grant a special reward, but it's extremely easy to the point where even new players can complete it. Hopefully, that enables some Zelda fans to revisit the game and have some newfound fun.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now on Nintendo Switch.
