Hideo Kojima is regarded as quite the legend in the video game sphere. He is a hugely influential video game designer, director, writer, and producer. He is best known for his Metal Gear Solid video game franchise, in which his creative vision has been at the helm of its success. Therefore, Kojima’s word speaks volumes. He is known to give a direct, blunt opinionated take on films and games without holding anything back.
For this reason, he is seen as a controversial figure because of his lack of filter. Yet, since Kojima is known to be quite a ruthless critic, this also allows for his positive remarks to be even that much more influential. Recently he has officially given Zack Snyder’s Justice League his seal of approval. He took to Twitter to discuss his thoughts on Snyder’s cut and shared his analysis of the film with fans. Fans fought hard for the release of Snyder’s Justice League cut after the major disappointment from 2017’s Justice League film.

Fans lobbied and protested on Twitter, relentlessly begging Warner Brothers to release the Snyder cut. Eventually, fans got what they wanted when the Snyder Cut hit HBO Max. Upon viewing the film for the first time, Kojima revealed that he thinks Snyder’s vision for the DCEU is ingenious. He addresses on Twitter the revisions that Snyder implemented, honing in on the details. He praises Snyder for expanding and evolving the characters of the Flash and Cyborg.
To be able to further the development of characters whose storylines and presence were some-somewhat abandoned is an accomplishment on its own. The impacts on Cyborg's character made by the studio and Joss Whedon after Snyder left the project became a huge point of contention for Ray Fisher. Kojima’s last words on Snyder’s Justice League cut were very impactful, even astounding. He tweeted, “It’s not so much a Snyder cut as it is a Snyder universe in every way, for better or worse. For him, this is justice.” Kojima also mentions the cut’s 4:3 aspect ratio as a means to illuminate Snyder’s creative direction.
Considering that both Snyder and Kojima are essentially auteurs in their chosen media, this is fairly high praise for Snyder's work. Kojima is also no stranger to having creative projects canceled or re-worked without any of his input. Metal Gear Survive proved to be something of a disappointment for gamers after it deviated so much from Kojima's signature style.
