While Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War may have had a rocky launch due to its plentiful bugs and limited content, it seems like the game has recovered well. According to a well-known leaker, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is performing strongly enough for Activision to keep supporting the game beyond 2021.

With Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War sales being so impressive despite the game's issues, it is not too shocking that its post-launch revenue has been high as well. With so many players owning a copy of the game, and a cross-gen launch only helping with its sales, the suggestion that it is bringing in plenty of revenue is believable. According to Tom Henderson, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s massive amount of microtransaction purchases is enough to get the game some support beyond its pre-planned Season count.

While a few extra Call of Duty: Modern Warfare maps were added to the game after its sixth Season came to a close, the support for the game has been nearly nonexistent beyond that. It seems like the 2020 Call of Duty game will have a longer lifespan, though, as its “post-launch revenue is exceeding expectations.” This comment also lines up with previous claims from Henderson regarding extra support for the game, as the leaker has stated that it will also get more love due to Call of Duty 2021’s development troubles.

As of now, it remains to be seen what form this extra support will take. At the very least, more cosmetic bundles are likely, with Operator and weapon skins seemingly being a big draw for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. However, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare still getting some fresh bundles after the rest of its support came to a halt, these additions will likely be more extensive. More battle passes are a possibility, as are some additional Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 map remakes.

If Henderson’s latest claim proves true, it will be interesting to see what will happen with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies. While the mode is incredibly popular, its lack of Survival maps has proven to be a major blow for the Zombies community. Extra post-launch support could rectify that, with several new maps coming beyond Season 4’s Mauer Der Toten. This would also provide a perfect chance for the much-requested Zombies Chronicles 2 to be released, though this is purely speculation.

Regardless, it seems like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans now have a reason to be optimistic about the future. While its “cycle” may end, and Call of Duty 2021 is quickly approaching, the game could continue to thrive for some time to come.
