Fortnite is rolling out its latest hotfix, which finally adds Alien Nanites to the game, as well as a few other new pieces of content.

Fortnite continues to introduce fresh new content for its latest season. Announced today, the game is rolling out a hotfix for Fortnite's 17.10 update patch, which includes the new Alien Nanites item as well as a few other new pieces of content for fans to discover.

Epic Games' ever-popular battle royale title is well into its second month of Season 7. The alien invasion-themed season has seen an array of new weapons introduced to the game, including firearms like the Kymera Ray Gun, Pulse Rifle, and Rail Gun. While weapon crafting, which was introduced last season, has taken a bit of a backseat in Season 7 thus far, that may soon change with what's being added to the game.

Detailed in a blog post on Fortnite's official website, the hotfix's headlining addition comes in the form of the new Alien Nanites item. Found on the ground, on top of Abductors, and in the Mothership, the Alien Nanites create a temporary low-gravity biome on the island when thrown. Mimicking the gravity of inside the Mothership, players will be able to enter and exit the affected area, which reportedly acts like a swimmable gelatin, which could provide a strategical advantage. Players will "practically start swimming" when jumping inside, and can crouch to descend faster. Those looking to exit the biome can do so worry-free at any height, as fall damage is negated upon exiting.

While generating an alien biome will certainly be an interesting strategical tool going forward, it isn't the sole purpose of Alien Nanites. As mentioned earlier, crafting is poised to have a more significant role in Season 7, as Alien Nanites also function as a crafting ingredient. While Fortnite's Nuts and Bolts of Season 7 simply sidegrade standard weapons into their otherwise-vaulted counterparts, the Alien Nanites transform Rare (blue) or higher guns into one of the new high-tech weapons. For example, combining a nanite with an Assault Rifle creates a Pulse Rifle. Additionally, SMGs turn into Kymera Ray Guns, and snipers become Rail Guns.

Beyond the addition of the Alien Nanites, the July 6 hotfix introduces a new NPC and Mythic weapon. Zyg and Choppy, which players will recognize as one of the skins from this season's battle pass, is a new NPC on the island. Supposedly the culprit behind the Alien Parasite eggs popping up on the island, the duo is located "towards the south" of the island, which is really Hydro 16. Zyg and Choppy wield a special Ray Gun, which is a more powerful version of the standard Kymera Ray Gun. With a devastating DPS of 180, Zyg and Choppy's Ray Gun is certainly going to be one of the most sought-after weapons in the game.

Fortnite fans have even more variety when it comes to item selection, with a healthy roster of diverse tools now at their disposal. Those looking to get their hands on some of the new alien tech may want to drop in at Holly Hatchery, which is what the now-alien-infested Holly Hedges POI has become.

Fortnite is free-to-play for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
