The Fast and Furious franchise is set to expand with another spinoff film, this one centered on Charlize Theron's cyberterrorist Cipher.

Charlize Theron's Cipher from the Fast and Furious franchise is getting her own spinoff movie. With the recent release of Fast and Furious 9, fans have two more final installments to look forward to in this long-running franchise. Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw both saw their own spinoff movie with the recent release of Hobbs & Shaw, which was set to be the first of many upcoming Fast and Furious spinoffs.

Cipher was an antagonist for the last four movies, although the character was featured in the background during Fast and Furious 6 and 7. Afterward, she moved more into the spotlight for Fast and Furious 8 and 9 with Theron in the villainous role. She was a cyberterrorist who kidnapped the family of Vin Diesel's character, Dominic Toretto, in order to have him aid her by turning against his team.

Some fans have concerns about Theron's character not being as fleshed out in comparison to the others who have been with the Fast and Furious franchise for much longer, and this causes some concerns for fans of the action-packed movie series. However, Variety reports Vin Diesel informed the outlet that writers are currently on a spinoff film that focuses on Theron's Cipher. It's also been confirmed that the final two installments of the main Fast and Furious saga will be filmed back-to-back and serve as the conclusion of these movies. With that being said, expect to see more of Cipher in those two upcoming films to serve as a bridge to her standalone film.

Fast and Furious has become a novelty for cinemas and movie theaters since it serves as a simple, fun, and action-packed escape from reality. People go to the theaters during the summer in order to watch this "lighthearted" thrill ride and turn their minds off, so to speak. Many film buffs appreciate complexity in film writing but sometimes simplicity and extravagance serve their purpose.

Many criticize Fast and Furious for being 'extra,' unrealistic, and ridiculous. However, that's exactly what gives it its identity. If every single film was serious, realistic, grounded, and made to win awards then they run the chance of getting their fans bored. Viewers need their superhero movies, they need their monster movies, they need their horror movies and they need their slasher films.

However, there is a time and place for everything because too much ridiculousness would become numbing. Stories with depth, purpose, thematic storylines, intricate character dynamics, and tear-jerking stories all serve a purpose. Those are the films that stick with viewers, the ones that challenge their thinking, and the ones that get talked about decades past their release.

Fast and Furious 9 is available now in theaters.
