Director Matthew Vaughn and cast members of The King’s Man shed light on the making of the film and the origins of the spy agency.

Ahead of its December release, Disney and 20th Century Studios are ramping up their promotional efforts for The King's Man. The latest installment in the Kingsman franchise will be set during World War I and will offer fans a look into the origins of the spy agency or “club,” as Gemma Arterton’s character Polly refers to call it.

The King's Man will work as a prequel to 2014's Kingsman: The Secret Service and 2017's Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Fans will get to meet a new cast, with characters who haven’t previously been introduced now taking on the titular roles. However, the special look trailer makes it clear that even though the film is set at a different time, the style and theme from the previous entries will be kept intact.

The King's Man feature includes interviews with the director Matthew Vaughn and some of the main cast members, who all talk about the making of the film and how it finally explores the intelligence organization’s backstory. The two-minute trailer is filled with some epic action sequences and a few good laughs, along with the iconic “Manners maketh man” line, which further confirms that the Kingsman style will be preserved. The films are known for their over-the-top action, witty humor, and fantastic suits.

The King's Man is one of many films that have been delayed due to the global pandemic. It was initially scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2020, but with many of the cinemas shutting down around the world, the studio decided to push the release to March 2021. This date was further moved to August, and finally to December 2021.

However, the delays go back much further, as the film was made before the Disney-Fox acquisition in 2019. As the paperwork was being completed, the films in 20th Century’s bag had to be moved around on the release calendar so as to avoid any clashes with those of Disney. So, despite being completed, The King's Man will finally hit theaters almost two years later.

The film is a part of the Kingsman franchise that is based on the comic book series by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. The script has been co-written by Vaughn and Karl Gajdusek and will feature a stellar cast including Ralph Fiennes as the Duke of Oxford, Arterton as Polly, Harris Dickinson as Conrad, Djimon Hounsou as Shola, Matthew Goode as Captain Morton, Daniel Bruhl as Erik Jan Hanussen, Tom Hollander as George V, Wilhelm II, Nicholas II, and Charles Dance as General Kitchener.

The King's Man will premiere in theaters on December 22, 2021.
