Paramount Plus has decided to renew Evil for a third season, ensuring viewers will be tempted to watch more episodes in the near future.

Evil, which originally aired on CBS in the 2019/2020 season, is one of the most well-reviewed network television shows of the past few years, with its first season earning a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, with the knowledge that Evil is driving viewers to Paramount Plus, the streamer has decided to renew the procedural mystery show for a third season, ensuring that viewers will be tempted to watch more episodes in the near future.

Evil stars Katja Herbers as Kristen Bouchard, a skeptical psychologist who teams up with a priest-in-training named David Acosta (played by Luke Cage actor Mike Colter) to investigate mysteries including cases of demonic possessions, hauntings, and miracles. The twist to the show is that Kristen and David must make a decision on whether a logical cause or a supernatural cause is the source of trouble in the case they're trying to solve.

Evil is currently debuting episodes of its second season on Paramount Plus on a weekly basis, a release tactic used by Marvel shows on Disney Plus such as Loki. The series also features Aasif Mandvi, Michael Emerson, Christine Lahti, Kurt Fuller, and Peter Scolari, among others. The Good Wife producers Michelle and Robert King are also serving as producers for all seasons of Evil so far.

Evil is beginning its ascent toward a peak of popularity at an exciting time for Paramount Plus. The streamer recently launched and is already touting a hefty selection of film and television content, including the streamer's reboot of iCarly, new episodes of The Good Fight, the CGI-animated Rugrats reboot, and the Mark Wahlberg action film Infinite. Paramount Plus also has a wide variety of projects in development that could prove to drive traffic to the service, including a live-action series based on the legendary video game franchise Halo.

The potential for widespread popularity for Evil is a fascinating case study in television. With supernatural cases varying by each episode, the series has similarities to detective procedurals while also acting as a modern answer to series like Supernatural and The X-Files. It also helps that Evil seems to have a much darker tone than both of those.

The series is being marketed with confidence on the part of Paramount Plus, and that confidence seems to have paid off. Early speculation led consumers to believe that Paramount Plus wouldn't reach the heights of more established streaming services, but with bold, daring projects like Evil, it seems like the streamer just might have a chance.

Evil seasons 1-2 are available on Paramount Plus.
