For Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin players looking to understand the egg system better, here's some important info to know.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is the latest installment in the spin-off series and has come to the Switch console after its 3DS predecessor. And while the game is still fairly new, there is a strong chance that it could dominate new game releases for July 2021 for the Nintendo Switch.

Something that is making a comeback in Monster Hunter Stories 2 is the Monster Eggs function from the original game. Also titled "Monstie Eggs," these allow players to access new powerful monsters to join their team to assist them in combat or traverse the world map.

While many enjoyed the different take on having the monsters as part of the team, some frustrating and confusing aspects could be annoying for some in the previous title. So for Monster Hunter Stories 2 fans looking to understand better how the Monstie Eggs system works, here is all the necessary information.

For starters, eggs can be found in multiple different areas across the game world. When entering a monster den, look for the nests with the mini egg icon on the map. After players pick up an egg, Navirou will comment on the weight and smell of the egg. This is very important to know since the heavier and nicer-smelling eggs contain the more powerful Monsters with rarer genes. Another way to tell if a leg will contain a rare Monstie is if it sparkles when gamers pick it up.

There are multiple different egg types for each of the different beasts, and each different beasts come with their own unique pattern for their eggs. The following list includes a detailed description of some of the known egg patterns from the Monster Hunter Stories 2 demo and the beast that it comes from:

  • In the Bird Wyvern Family, the Kulu-Ya-Ku lays a white egg with orange spots on it.
  • In the Bird Wyvern Family, the Pukei-Pukei lays a green egg with white spots on it.
  • In the Bird Wyvern Family, the Velocidrome lays a blue egg with orange spots on it.
  • In the Bird Wyvern Family, the Yian Kut-Ku lays a purple egg with blue spots on it.
  • In the Fanged Beast Family, the Bulldrome lays a brown egg with a lighter brown spiked pattern for spots on it.
  • In the Herbivore Family, the Aptonoth lays a green egg with black oval patterns on it.

Sadly, gamers can only carry one egg in their hand at a time when carrying them out of the Monster Den. However, with the Egg Carton item, gamers can carry multiple eggs and view their carton from the Camp Menu. Lastly, fans then have to bring them back to the stables to hatch them.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is out now for PC and Switch.
