Scarlet Nexus' story has a lot going on at once. While players can understand most of what's going on, some things are harder to catch.

Scarlet Nexusnarrative is one of its biggest selling points. This JRPG title is deeply rooted in Japanese culture, while also utilizing science fiction elements. It has a particular progression, style, and design that all anime fans will find familiar and interesting.

As essential as the story of the game is to the overall experience, there are also a wide number of narrative beats that are purposefully left ambiguous. After the player finishes both Yuito and Kasane's storyline, they will be left with more questions about the game's story and ending. Whether minor or major to the plotline, there are hidden things in the story a few players may have missed in Scarlet Nexus.

10 What Happens To Retired OSF Soldiers

In Gemma's bond episodes while playing as Yuito, the player will be able to explore Gemma's past and his desires to retire in the future. As the team's self-proclaimed senior and protector, the end of Gemma's career in the OSF is inevitable. However, while exploring these things, they also uncover something about the OSF that shocked them to their very core.

OSF soldiers tend to pass away very shortly after retiring. As it happens, this isn't coincidental. They are experimented on and their brains are extracted to create ampoules.

9 The Baki Charms Foreshadow Nagi And Naomi's Fate

After Yuito or Kasane (depends on which character the player is playing) completes their OSF training they head to the Sumeragi tomb to treat themselves with some Baki fortune. According to their fortune, Nagi's future is supposed to be grim, and Naomi initially had a promising future but traded hers for Kasane after she received a bad card.

Incidentally, both of Nagi and Naomi's tellings ended up predicting their futures. Both of these characters had a terrible fate, while Yuito and Kasane ended up completing their missions.

8 The Powers Coincide With The Characters' Personalities

Each character's powers in Scarlet Nexus are unique and bring something essential to the combat arena. It is also very interesting how each of the character's abilities somewhat coincides with their personalities or background.

For example, Kyoka struggles with split personalities because of her past life, which mirrors her ability to create duplicates. Kagero is a spy and an assassin and his invisibility powers complement that. Gemma is very protective of those around him, which makes his Sclerokinesis perfect for him.

7 The Issue With Aging

Most of the characters in the game look very youthful despite their actual age. Characters like Arashi and Luka look like they're still children, when in fact, they're older than they appear. This is because OSF soldiers take de-aging pills as it is said that powers tend to weaken as a person's body ages. OSF soldiers begin aging when they retire because they stop taking the pills.

6 The Nature Of BABE

BABE is Togetsu's central computer system just as Arahabaki is Suoh's. The nature of this system, as well as the meaning behind its name, is as vague as anything in this game. One thing that is known about BABE is that it uses the brains of various Red String users.

The Red Strings are something Kasane, Yuito, and Wakana are somehow able to manipulate. This also allows them to travel back or further in time. BABE is powered by the brains of those who can control the Red Strings.

5 Karen Has Traveled Back More Than Once

Karen steals Yuito and Kasane's powers via his Brain Eater ability to travel back in time and save Alice. As the player reaches the end game, though, it is revealed that the current Karen wasn't able to travel back successfully. Instead, he is greeted by his past self who has been linked with Arahabaki for over two millenniums.

Both Karens then merge with one another, giving the current Karen the memories of his other self. He then realizes that jumping back and forth between time periods is something he has done constantly. Finally, in the game's ending, Karen travels back one last time, erasing himself from the timeline, but also successfully bringing Alice back.

4 The Ampoules

The true nature of the ampoules present in the game is very enigmatic. Although, it is later revealed that this material is horrendously made out of the brains of powered individuals, such as retired OSF soldiers.

Seiran created these ampoules to control human-transformed Others. According to certain files in the Research facility, these ampoules allow the Others to keep their personalities and their powers. This is why Naomi was able to keep her personality and memories when Kasane meets her later on.

3 How People Have Powers

The world of Scarlet Nexus is filled with superpowered individuals. According to the lore of the game, this was made possible after advancement in technology allowed humans to unlock something in their brains, which then gave them extraordinary abilities.

This technological advance is also why people can simply link their brains into their city's computer system, why OSF soldiers can brain message one another, and how they can use each other's abilities.

2 The Duds

On the other end of the superpowered spectrum in the world of Scarlet Nexus are humans known as Duds. These are individuals who are born without abilities. It is said that over 99% of the population has powers, which would make Duds a rarity.

Although some people can be born without powers, they can be artificially embedded in them — such is the case for individuals such as Yuito and Luka. On top of that, even though 99% of the population are born with powers, only OSF soldiers have the ability to use their abilities at their maximum potential.

1 The World Before

Scarlet Nexus is set in an alternate reality world. However, before the Others came along and humans with incredible powers, the world of this game was very much like our own. However, a cataclysmic event urged the human race to travel to and inhabit the moon, only for them to return to Earth after it became inhabitable again.

The game is supposed to be set in the year 2020, but its calendar year begins only from when humans repopulated the Earth again. With that in mind, this world is still set in the far future.
