The Last of Us 2 is packed full of Easter eggs, references to Sony and other Naughty Dog games, and other interesting finds, but players are still discovering more. Redditor Affe_Boy__ is the latest to find something new in the game, as they have found a strange property of certain PlayStation consoles found inside the game. It seems that even if Ellie rarely got a chance to play video games herself, she still has a deep appreciation for them, as the player is unable to make her shoot PlayStation consoles with any of her weapons.
For context, The Last of Us 2 is a PlayStation 4 exclusive game, and is published by Sony. Naughty Dog, the game's developer, also is a first party Sony developer, so it's easy to see why a feature like this might have been implemented. Even so, it's strange that the time and energy was put forth into coding this into a game that already has so much detail put into it.

As the clip below shows, Affe_Boy__ is able to fire their rifle inside the building all around the PlayStation 3 console, but as soon as the cursor pans over the console itself, the gun is no longer able to fire. The player seems to try a few times to get this to work, but the gun doesn't fire until right after the cursor leaves the console. This immunity even extends to the PlayStation 3 DualShock 3 controllers that are plugged into the device, as Affe_Boy__ is unable to shoot those either.
Players compare this to the infamous PS Vita scene in The Last of Us 2, in which a member of the WLF attacks Ellie while playing a PS Vita. After killing this enemy, the player can find the PS Vita still running on the floor. Unlike the PlayStation 3 console above, this handheld Sony device can be fired at, but it doesn't have any effect whatsoever. There's no cracks in the screen and the Vita continues to run as if nothing happened. There are supposedly other instances of PlayStation consoles that Ellie can't seem to hurt as well.
This is clearly an intentional feature and not some kind of glitch, as Naughty Dog seems to want to protect these consoles from the destructive tendencies of players. Some in the comments find it hilarious that the developers knew that players would try to shoot everything in sight, and even funnier that they opted to put fail safes in place to stop the player from doing so. It's just another example of the immense attention to detail in The Last of Us 2.
The Last of Us 2 is available now on PS4.
