The Tormentors of Torghast event contains several mobs that are devastating and drops that are worth conquering them for.

The Tormentors of Torghast event is a weekly event that takes place in the original areas of the Maw. This may confuse many since most of the new 9.1 content in Shadowlands is concentrated in Korthia. However, the event essentially mirrors the Wrath of the Jailor, which ended with 9.1's release.

Each week, players will have the chance to unlock unique limited-time rewards. At the start of a new week, the rewards are reset, incentivizing players to participate in the event at least once every seven days. This guide will cover all of the possible spawn locations and explain everything else people need to know about the event.

Every two hours, the event will spawn in one of the locations throughout the Maw. For EU and Eastern Time players, this will be on the odd-numbered hours. For Central and Pacific time players, the event begins on even-numbered hours. Tormentors of Torghast will begin at the following six different locations:

  • Calcis
  • Cocyrus
  • Crucible of the Damned
  • Detrithos
  • Face of Oblivion
  • The Tremaculum

The exact coordinates of the event are not important because the location of the Tormentors will appear on the map. Once the event has begun, the crossed swords icon will appear on the map where the event is taking place. While the spawn points are random, players can at least rule out the prior location from the list of possible spawn points.

Anyone trying to attend the event should hang around a central location and be ready on their mount before the event begins. The Maw is large, but those in a central location will have time to join the fight before it ends.

At the start of the event, there will be three separate elite mobs, which are Lieutenant mobs. Once those three mobs are defeated, a boss mob (Tormentor) will spawn.  For the elite enemies, people will want at least two other characters helping them out.

Group up and use basic strategies to take down the Tormentors and secure the loot. People that have high gear characters should not struggle if they have a little help from others on the server. There are a total of 15 different possible Tormentors, each with unique abilities and weaknesses. For the sake of brevity, this guide will not break all of them down in detail.

The primary draw of the event is that upon completion, gamers will receive 50 Soul Cinders. The reward is limited to one per week, but it is only one of three different methods to acquire Soul Cinders in 9.1. Therefore, everyone should be trying to play through the event at least once per week.

Additionally, people can get Soul Cinders from the Covenant Assault, as well as the Layer 9+ Torghast runs. Out of the three options, the Tormenters of Torghast is the least stressful. The event is less time demanding as well because there will be a lot of characters on the server joining in.

Gamers that farm the event a second time will get a consolation prize of Death's Advance Rep and some Soul Ash. Anyone looking to increase their rep or acquire some Soul Ash may consider joining the event. For most people, doing the event for a second or third time should not be a priority.

Patch 9.1 introduced Legendary ranks 5 and 6 to Shadowlands. Gamers will no longer be able to just use Soul Ash for upgrades and will not need Soul Cinders to get their armor up to level 262. Both the events and the Torghast layers limit the total amount of Soul Cinders a character can collect per week, with the Torghast layer 12 being the most fruitful method. In the new update, Soul Cinders have become the most valuable currency because they are the only items that can be used to reach the max gear level.

The Tormentor's Cache will always contain Warped Phantasma. This Legendary item begins a quest called "Phantasmagoria". Anyone looking for quick XP or Ve'nari rep will want to complete it. Additionally, the event has the chance to drop a weekly legendary item. Last week, the item was the Chain of Bahmethra mount.

For each week until the event ends, gamers will have the chance to collect the legendary item. It should be noted that the item will only appear in the Tormentor's Cache, which can only be looted once per week by a character.
