Fans have been talking about an Easter egg in the latest episode of Loki since it premiered, and James Gunn has joined the conversation.

In episode 5 of Loki, the God of Mischief journeyed to the Void, a post-apocalyptic planet where the Time Variance Authority essentially “dumps its rubbish.” Amid all the Easter eggs found in the episode and a whole bunch of Loki Variants, a bright yellow Thanos Copter caught the attention of a lot of comic books fans. One of them happens to be Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn.

Gunn took to Twitter to thank Marvel Studios for finally fulfilling his “wish from 2015” by delivering the Thanos Copter as a canon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though the helicopter appears for just a few seconds, it would be hard for fans to miss its bright yellow color and the “Thanos” printed on its side in the scene, wherein Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is coming to terms with other Variants of himself existing in the Void.

In the comics, the Mad Titan was spotted flying the helicopter marked “Thanos” and it first appeared in the '70s. The powerful being, who managed to wipe half the population of the planet in Avengers: Infinity War, used his personal chopper in the comics to hunt down the Cosmic Cube. The clipping of the scene from the comics has been shared on social media multiple times since the fifth episode of Loki premiered. Gunn shared the scene back in 2015 and is grateful that it finally appeared as part of the MCU.

Of course, the appearance of the Thanos Copter has many fans believing that the Mad Titan could potentially still be alive and living in the Void. It doesn’t necessarily have to be the version of the supervillain that was killed in the Avengers: Endgame. Considering there are multiple Loki Variants living in the Void, fans are now theorizing that there could also be other versions of Thanos who were captured by the TVA for their crimes against the sacred timeline.

If the theory is in fact correct, this won’t be the first time that fans would get to see an alternate version of the supervillain. In Avengers: Endgame, Thor is seen killing the Mad Titan, but he makes a comeback in the form of an alternate version of the character who arrives from the past to end The Avengers’ plans of time travel. And at this point, after seeing an Alligator Loki, it seems anything is indeed possible. Will Thanos make another comeback? Time will tell. For now, fans have his helicopter to fawn over.

Loki is now streaming on Disney Plus.
