James Gunn just revealed a new Amanda Waller poster for The Suicide Squad and teased a little extra for excited fans living in the U.S.

Barely a month out from the release of The Suicide Squad and director James Gunn sure knows how to keep that hype energy flowing. When he's not swooping in like a lawyer-themed superhero to help someone after a raccoon attack, he's excitedly talking up his upcoming film like an 8-year-old who's about to go to Disney World.

His latest drop in the heck yeah bucket involves a brand new and fascinatingly stylized poster for the movie. The new image posted on Gunn's Twitter page features silhouettes of the cast, a nice contrasting color scheme, and just enough red to properly convey how much blood audiences can expect to see. (The answer is a lot, and then probably more than that.) Between The Suicide Squad and fellow violence aficionado The Boys, Hollywood might start running out of prop blood soon.

The poster features shadowy outlines of the full cast, from Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn all the way to John Cena as Peacemaker, posing on the reclining face of the group's creator Amanda Waller (played by Viola Davis). The simple design, including Davis' own face shaded in a deep red, feels satisfyingly retro and reminiscent of the sorts of classic ensemble movies that inspired The Suicide Squad. All that combined with the title's stencil-style font, which evokes old army films, comes together to really make the audience feel something. (In most cases, that something will probably be "huh, that's cool.")

Gunn himself also included a touch of new info in the tweet, namely an early screening date for any lucky U.S. moviegoers (don't worry, he didn't forget Canadian theater chains) who happen to be free the evening before its proper release. "For those of you who can't wait," Gunn wrote, "#TheSuicideSquad is coming to you a day early in the US - see it on the evening of Thursday, August 5 - which also happens to be my birthday." That's right, it's also his birthday. Now everybody is jealous that they'll never have such a perfect opportunity to casually mention their own birthdays. Maybe Paul Rudd can troll them or something.

The Suicide Squad looks to be a real humdinger of a loose sequel, which is another way of saying it's going to be way different from and far bloodier than David Ayer's 2016 predecessor aptly named Suicide Squad. Many were surprised to hear that Gunn was taking over on the sequel for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that he's doing a DC film after years of directing Marvel movies (and still working on at least one.)

So one way or another, The Suicide Squad will give audiences something very different than what they're used to. No word on whether it will include anything to rival a talking tree with a single-digit vocabulary, but it will feature a talking shark with a dad bod voiced by Sylvester Stallone, and no, that's not a Mad Lib.

The Suicide Squad will debut in North American theaters on August 6, 2021.
