Artist creates an incredible custom Friday the 13th NES console with sound effects, impressive paint job, and a pair of matching controllers.

Atlus’1989 NES adaptation of Friday the 13th is fairly controversial, remembered by some as one of the worst horror games of all time. Still, the nightmarishly difficult and infamously frustrating game holds a special place in the hearts of many long-time gamers.

And that’s precisely the kind of person who might want their very own custom Friday the 13th NES. The bespoke console features a high-quality finish, two matching controllers, and custom sound effects.

The roof to the shiny red-and-black console features a pixelated version of Jason’s mask and the title Friday the 13th in the franchise’s iconic font. The NES controllers have the same reflective black coating, with faint red highlights on the back. The face of one controller features a recreation of the 1989 game’s version of Jason’s mother’s partially mummified head. The grotesque shrine somehow manages to be creepy even when reduced to 8-bit graphics painted on lifeless plastic. The other controller, which the artist showed a particular fondness for, features a recreation of Friday the 13th’s in-game map.

The custom NES console also plays sound effects when users press the Power and Reset buttons. Pressing the Power button plays various music and sound effects from the game. These include the title music, an 8-bit rendition of Friday the 13th Part 2’s iconic theme, and Jason’s eerily distorted whispering. Meanwhile, the Reset button features three clips of Mrs. Voorhees’s disembodied voice encouraging Jason’s murderous spree. The console also comes with an easter egg hidden under the flip door. The console user is treated to a line of pixelated text reading, “Watch out…Jason’s still alive and stronger than before!!”

Custom Nes Guy created the beautifully crafted piece, and despite the name, he doesn’t limit himself to making custom NES consoles. From his Facebook page, enthusiasts can commission custom consoles, PCs, and controllers. Still, custom NES consoles are the artist’s primary focus. His pieces feature high-quality automotive paint, giving the items their impressive shine. He uploaded video clips showing his Friday the 13th console to Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube.

Other notable projects include custom Mario, Zelda, and Teenage Mutant Nina Turtles NES and SNES consoles. He even sold one of the TMNT consoles to a musician whose group performed the song Turtle Power for the 1990 live-action movie. However, the Friday the 13th console is easily his best-received piece so far. In a Facebook post from July 9th, Custom Nes Guy said he broke viewer platforms, and comments and requests flooded his inbox. The console artist very much seems to have a viral hit on his hands.
