The cats in Minecraft are adorable, and fans don't have to question how to make one into a friend with the help of this guide.

Even in the blocky style known to Minecraft, many people still adore cats. Ever since the felines were added to the game sometime after wolves, how to make one your pet was a mystery to some players. The good news for cat-lovers is that they can be tamed, and here is a guide on how to make one into a loyal companion.

The Minecraft cats started from one of the more known critters in the game, ocelots. They could be tamed back when the game only had its Java Edition, with Bedrock Edition adding stray cats later on. Luckily, they could always be tamed, and the way to do it is fairly simple.

Cats spawn as strays mostly in villages as long as the naturally spawning or player-built village has at least one villager and four beds. They can also rarely be found in the wild thanks to a spawn rate that makes one appear near a player, but stray cats can despawn after some time. Visiting a village may be the fastest way to find a stray cat.

These cat companions have plenty of uses in Minecraft. If the player is being pursued by Phantoms, the cat will hiss at them, and the Phantoms will stay their distance with a cat around. Another monster that cats repel is the Creeper, which is sure to save many builds the player has made from destruction.

For the empathetic players, the myth that cats always land on their feet is true in the Minecraft world, and they don't take any fall damage. Cats can be bred as well by being fed more fish, and fish can be used to heal them, too. For those fans that adore their animal companions, they can use this Minecraft name tags guide to make one and give them a special name if they'd like to.

Minecraft is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
