Building a Pokemon team for the GO Battle League can be tricky Here are a few of the best options for the Great League level of play.

Pokemon Go is an augmented reality mobile video game released in 2016, developed and published by Niantic with the help of Nintendo and The Pokemon Company. At first launch, players only had access to the first generation of Pokemon, but now they can find, catch, and train over 600 different kinds.

In December 2018, a PvP feature was added in the form of the GO Battle League. Players can participate in three-versus-three battles in one of three different leagues: the Great League, the Ultra League, and the Master League. In the Great League, Pokemon must have 1500 CP or less. Therefore, players must be mindful of choosing their best three Pokemon. Here are ten amazing choices for Great League battles.

Updated July 15th, 2021 by Linnea Capps: The meta of Pokemon GO is constantly evolving as new pocket monsters and features are added to the game. With these new Pokemon able to take the field, there are new offensive and defensive threats in Great League. Players looking to bring home the win at local tournaments or against friends should consider a few additional picks to spice up their team.

15 Azumarill Is Surprisingly Bulky

Azumarill is a Fairy and Water type Pokemon. At Level 50, it has a Max CP of 1,795, an Attack of 112, a Defense of 152, and a Stamina of 225. Azumarill evolves from Marill with 25 Candy; Marill evolves from Azurill with 25 Candy as well.

The best Quick move for Azumarill is Bubble (Water). Meanwhile, its best Charge moves are Hydro Pump (Water), Ice Beam (Ice), and Play Rough (Fairy). Azumarill shines in the Great League because it is insanely bulky due to its defense and stamina. It also has decent typing and covers just about everything the trainer needs.

14 Skarmory Has Incredible Resistances And Marvelous Bulk

Skarmory is a Flying and Steel type Pokemon. At Level 50, it has a Max CP of 2383, an Attack of 148, a Defense of 226, and a Stamina of 163. Its best Quick move is Air Slash (Flying) while its best Charge moves are Sky Attack (Flying) and Brave Bird (Flying).

Skarmory boasts a whopping ten resistances against other Pokemon types making it an excellent teammate. As it can absolutely destroy any Grass type Pokemon in the tier, it can be a fantastic counter to Venusaur, Tropius, and Meganium. Just make sure it doesn't come up against any Electric or Steel types as its attacks will do next to nothing against them. about

13 Galarian Stunfisk Has A Fantastic Typing

Galarian Stunfisk is a Ground and Steel type Pokemon. At Level 50, its Max CP clocks in at 2,445, its Attack at 144, Defense at 171, and Stamina at 240. Its best Quick move is Mud Shot (Ground), and its best Charge are Rock Slide (Rock) and Earthquake (Ground).

Galarian Stunfisk succeeds in the Great League because it tanks well and has awesome typing. Although it is weak to Water type moves, Galarian Stunfisk is immune to both Poison and Electric type attacks and resists Grass type and Steel type as well.

12 Venusaur Is A Grass-Type Powerhouse

This Grass/Poison type Pokemon has been around since Gen 1. At Level 50, it has a Max CP of 3,075, an Attack 198, a Defense of 189, and a Stamina of 190. Venusaur evolves from Ivysaur with 100 Candy, which evolves from Bulbasaur with 25 Candy. The best Quick moves for this beast are Vine Whip (Grass) and Razor Leaf (Grass). The best Charge moves for Venusaur are Frenzy Plant (Grass) and Sludge Bomb (Poison).

It is not the most defensive option for the Great League, but the Poison typing complements the Grass typing very well. Furthermore, Venusaur's Grass type moves are just too powerful too to pass up. If the trainer has Shadow Venusaur instead of regular Venusaur, that works too!

11 Jellicent Has A Weird Typing For Excellent Counter Strategies

Jellicent is a Ghost and Water type Pokemon. At Level 50, its Max CP is 2,644, its Attack is 159, its Defense is 178, and its Stamina is 255. Its best Quick moves are Hex (Ghost) and Bubble (Water) while its best Charge moves are Bubble Beam (Water), Ice Beam (Ice), and Shadow Ball (Ghost).

One of Jellicent's biggest strengths is how well it can counter all of the other Water staples in the meta including the constantly present Azumarill. While it has a bit of a weird typing, it does boast resistances to eight other Pokemon types as well. Combined with its high Stamina, this can make Jellicent a solid wall that is hard to get past.

10 Umbreon's Defense Is Nearly Unbreakable

This Dark type Pokemon's Level 50 stats include a Max CP of 2,416, an Attack of 126, a Defense of 240, and a Stamina of 126. Umbreon evolves from Eevee with 25 Candy, after the trainer walks 10 kilometers during the nighttime.

Umbreon's best Quick move is Snarl (Dark), while its strongest Charge moves are Last Resort (Normal) and Dark Pulse (Dark). It is strong in the Great League because the super low attack means a super high defense. This thing is the ultimate wall. The only time Umbreon falls short is if opposing Pokemon use Counter (Fighting), so watch out for this particular attack.

9 Bastiodon Is Another Defensive Superstar

Bastiodon is a dual Ground/Steel type Pokemon. At Level 50, it has a Max CP of 1,741, an Attack of 94, a Defense of 286, and a Stamina of 155. Bastiodon evolves from Shieldon with 50 Candy. The best Quick move for Bastiodon is Smack Down (Rock), and the best Charge moves are Stone Edge (Rock) and Flamethrower (Fire).

It is obviously used as a wall in Great League battles, due to the ridiculously high defense. The only way Bastiodon goes down is from Fighting, Ground, Water, and Fire type moves. It may be slow, but Bastiodon is pretty decent offensively and has decent coverage with its attacks.

8 Sirfetch'd Is A Brave Knight With An Attack Stat To Match

Sirfetch'd is a Fighting type Pokemon At Level 50, it has a Max CP of 3,375, an Attack of 248, a Defense of 176, and a Stamina of 158. Sirfetch'd requires the player to have 50 Galarian Farfetch'd candy to evolve after making 10 excellent throws while a Galarian Farfetch'd is the player's walking buddy. The best Quick move for Sirfetch'd is Counter (Fighting) while its best Charge moves are Leaf Blade (Grass) and Close Combat (Fighting)

While Farfetch'd and its Galarian form aren't much to look at in Great League, Sirfetch'd brings an attack stat that's on a whole new level. It's capable of sweeping entire teams in the right conditions but its nature as a glass cannon can make it falter at times. Make sure to carefully team build with Sirfetch'd and only switch him in when the time is right.

7 Registeel Obliterates Enemies

Registeel is a Steel type Pokemon, one of the Legendary Titans. At Level 50, it boasts a Max CP of 2,766, an Attack of 143, a Defense of 285, and a Stamina of 190. Registeel's best Quick move is Lock-On (Normal). For charge moves, the best options are Flash Cannon (Steel) and Focus Blast (Fighting).

Registeel has decent offense and exceptional defense in the Great League. In addition, Steel typing provides a huge number of resistances — Registeel is only going down from Fire, Ground, or Fighting type moves. Although Registeel's Charge moves are expensive, they pack a punch that's well worth it.

6 Tropius Has A Typing Unlike Any Other

Tropius is a Grass and Flying type Pokemon. At Level 50, it has a Max CP of 2,194, an Attack of 136, a Defense of 163, and a Stamina of 223. It has two good choices for Quick moves, Air Slash (Flying) and Razor Leaf (Grass). Its best Charge moves are Leaf Blade (Grass) and Aerial Ace (Flying).

Tropius offers an interesting package in the Great League, due to its Grass/Flying type combination. This makes Tropius effective against the other Grass type Pokemon that appear often, as well as Fighting types. However, players should watch out for Ice type moves.

5 Hypno Is Incredibly Flexible And Packs A Punch

Hypno is a Psychic type Pokemon. At Level 50, it has a Max CP of 2,363, an Attack of 144, a Defense of 193, and a Stamina of 198.

While most players agree that its best move combination is Confusion (Psychic) or its Quick move and either Focus Blast (Fighting) or Shadow Ball (Ghost) for its Charge move, Hypno has the ability to fit into any team as a flexible counter to types its teammates are weak against. This is thanks to its access to moves like Fire Punch (Fire), Thunder Punch (Electric) and Ice Punch (Ice).

4 Altaria Has Great Type Coverage

Altaria is a Dragon and Flying type Pokemon. At Level 50, its Max CP is 2,266, its Attack is 141, its Defense is 201, and its Stamina is 181. Altaria evolves from Swablu with 400 Candy. Its best Quick move is Dragon Breath (Dragon). It has three great choices for Charge moves: Sky Attack (Flying), Dragon Pulse (Dragon), and Dazzling Gleam (Fairy).

It is not only bulky but strong in the Great League. Altaria has fantastic resistances, so the only thing trainers should watch out for are Ice type moves, which pose a huge threat.

3 Sableye's Typing Makes It Untouchable

Sableye is a Dark- and Ghost type Pokemon. At Level 50, it has a Max CP of 1,668, an Attack of 141, a Defense of 136, and a Stamina of 137. Its best Quick move is Shadow Claw (Ghost). It has four great Charge moves: Foul Play (Dark), Power Gem (Rock), Return (Normal), and Shadow Sneak (Ghost).

Sableye has good offensive and defensive capabilities in the Great League. Its Dark/Ghost typing gives it an edge since Sableye is only weak to Fairy type and is immune to Fighting, Psychic, and Normal type moves. Players can rely on it surviving most damage while dishing out an array of fantastic attacks.

2 Swampert Has Massive Attacking Power

Swampert is a Water/Ground type Pokemon. At Level 50, its Max CP clocks in at 3,362, its Attack at 208, Defense at 175, and Stamina at 225. Swampert evolves from Marshtomp with 100 Candy, which evolves from Mudkip with 25 Candy. Swampert's best Quick move is Mud Shot (Ground), while its best Charge moves are Hydro Cannon (Water), Earthquake (Ground), and Sludge Wave (Poison).

Though it struggles against Grass type Pokemon, Swampert is a serious threat in the Great League as its moves are phenomenal. Swampert offers great coverage and capitalizes on this due to killer attacking power. If the trainer has Shadow Swampert instead of regular Swampert, that works too!

1 Galvantula Is The Ultimate Counter To Two Top Meta Picks

Galvantula is a Bug and Electric type Pokemon. At Level 5o, its Max CP is 2,492, its attack is 201, its Defense is 128, and its Stamina is 172. Galvantula's best Quick move is Volt Switch (Electric) while its best Charge moves are Discharge (Electric) and Lunge (Bug).

While Galvantula isn't exactly bulky, it absolutely obliterates two of the best Pokemon in the Great League — Azumarill and Registeel. Players that run up against and/or lose to these two threats often should make sure to add this zappy spider to their team ASAP.
