Deoxys might not be the cutest Pokemon out there, but its various formes are some of the rarer catches in the franchise's history. First introduced as a Mythical in Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire, Deoxys was added to Pokemon GO in 2018. The Psychic-type can only be caught during Raids, and due to its powerful Mythical status, Deoxys cannot be traded between trainers.
Deoxys’ Defense Forme is also one of the best defense options for battling in the Great and Ultra Leagues in Pokemon GO. While Mythicals cannot be placed as a defender at a Gym, they are available to battle in PVP, and Deoxys can outlast all but the best opponents. Being such a great Pokemon, trainers might want to go a step further and grind Deoxys raids for a shiny, but getting a shiny Deoxys in Pokemon GO isn’t as straightforward as it sounds.

Deoxys does have a shiny variant in Pokemon GO, but only its Normal Forme. Deoxys’ Defense, Attack, and Speed Formes do not currently have shiny variations. This is particularly annoying on the run-up to Pokemon GO Fest 2021, as its Defense Forme has been the featured raids in Niantic's fifth-anniversary celebrations.
Trainers were hoping Niantic would add the chance to get a shiny Defense Forme Deoxys for the anniversary event, but the company didn’t mention it when revealing Pokemon Go Fest 2021 details, like it did with Mewtwo. So, while Niantic hasn't actually said Defense Forme Deoxys won’t get a shiny form, it is very unlikely this late on that the Deoxys raids would receive a shiny update.
Trainers may not have even noticed that they have a certain type of Deoxys Forme. The only way to tell what forme trainers have of Deoxys, or what type they are fighting in a raid, is to look at its appearance.
This is what all the different Deoxys Formes look like:
- Normal Forme - Orange and blue entangled arms, and body is mostly orange, except for the waist
- Attack Forme - Orange and Blue arms are not entangled, has a mostly grey torso, and has pointy knees and face
- Speed Forme - One blue and orange arm, mostly grey except for circles on thighs, and the back of its head is very long
- Defense Forme - Orange and blue arms are straight, is mostly orange, and has a rounded head and blue knees
Trainers will know they have a shiny forme of Deoxys by its yellow and green coloring. These rare finds can also be searched for by typing ‘shiny’ into the search bar while in the game. Trainers might want to check if they have any of the rarest shinies in Pokemon GO while they are searching.
Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS devices.
