Genshin Impact players looking to convert their gems for character ascension can find out how to obtain and use Dust of Azoth in this short guide.

One of the primary materials required to ascend characters in Genshin Impact are the various colored gems that are obtained from Quests and Boss encounters. While players are able to grind desired gem colors from bosses, in many cases players will typically end up with an overabundance of a certain color type. Developer miHoYo has attempted to alleviate this issue for Genshin Impact players with the addition of Dust of Azoth.

Often, one of the obstacles that Genshin players will encounter is that they have all the boss materials required to ascend a specific character, but are short on gem fragments. Dust of Azoth solves this issue by allowing players to convert unused gem fragments of a specific color to the color required.

To use Dust of Azoth, players can head over to any alchemy station in the game. From the alchemy station, select the conversion tab.

From the conversion tab, players are able to scroll down and select whatever gemstone they require for character ascension. When selecting a specific gem, players will notice that there is an automatic pairing of a different color.

For example, when attempting to obtain Agnas Agate (red gems), the default pairing will be Varunada Lazurite (blue gems). This default pairing can be changed by selecting the small icon with the stack of papers in the bottom right corner. After selecting this icon, players will be able to choose any color of gem that they wish to convert to their desired color.

One of the more confusing aspects for players when using the conversion system is how to obtain Dust of Azoth. Unfortunately, unlike many materials in the game, Dust of Azoth is not easily obtained.

There are two primary methods for obtaining Dust of Azoth. The first method is purchasing the item via Paimon's Bargains in the shop menu.

From the shop menu, select the Starglitter Exchange tab. In the shop, players will find that a stack of 10 Dust of Azoth can be purchased for 5 masterless star glitter. Because masterless star glitter is only obtained via Genshin Impact's wishing system, players should be conservative in the amount of Dust of Azoth that they use.

The second method of obtaining Dust of Azoth is via the game's limited-time event shops. While this may not be a consistent way to purchase Dust of Azoth, the item had been made available for purchase in all recent event shops including (Windblume Festival, Midsummer Island Adventure, and Lantern Rite Festival). In each of these events, players were able to earn an event currency and then could spend that currency in an event-specific shop that contained a variety of items.

With these tips in mind, Genshin players should be able to quickly cut down on their overall boss grinding time when attempting to level their characters.

Genshin Impact is available for Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5, with a Switch version in development.
