Every month, Microsoft gives away at least four free games to its Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Typically the Xbox free Games with Gold lineup consists of two Xbox One games and two Xbox 360 games. Occasionally Microsoft will shake things up by adding a bonus free game to the mix, like when it made Gears 5 free a few months ago. However, the latest case of a free bonus game is a bit strange as the game is a title that was just recently free through the service a month ago.
For some unknown reason, Microsoft has made Injustice: Gods Among Us free to download for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. What makes this especially odd is that Injustice: Gods Among Us was one of the Xbox free Games with Gold games for June 2021. It's possible that it's been made free again for Xbox Live Gold subscribers as a mistake, but that remains to be seen. Anyone who happened to miss out on claiming the game while it was free last month now have another opportunity to do so.

Injustice: Gods Among Us, for the uninitiated, is a fighting game from Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm Studios that focuses entirely on DC comic book characters. The story mode imagines a world where Superman becomes a ruthless dictator, and the multiplayer lets players battle it out as some of the most popular DC comics heroes and villains. Injustice: Gods Among Us was well-received when it first launched and its sequel, Injustice 2, was also quite popular.
In the meantime, there are other Xbox free Games with Gold that subscribers can download now. Of course, the Xbox free Games with Gold for July 2021 are now available, with Planet Alpha, Rock of Ages 3: Make & Break, and Midway: Arcade Origins currently free to claim and download. Planet Alpha and Midway: Arcade Origins will be free for subscribers to download until July 31, whereas Rock of Ages 3: Make & Break will remain on the service until August 15.
August 2021 will undoubtedly see more games added to the Xbox free Games with Gold lineup, but it seems likely that Microsoft will be discontinuing the service at some point down the line. Reputable industry insiders believe that Microsoft has plans to discontinue Xbox Live Gold once it has managed to secure enough Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate already offers all of the same benefits as Xbox Live Gold in addition to the perks of being a Game Pass subscriber, so the writing definitely seems to be on the wall. For now, though, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can look forward to new free games every month.
