Opening the Nine Pillars of Peace is one of the most challenging quests in Genshin Impact, the new open-world fantasy RPG from miHoYo.

It's been just over a week since Genshin Impact, the fantasy open-world RPG from miHoYO, launched on PC, PS4, and mobile. Already the game has proved to be a big success with both players and critics, despite the controversy surrounding its "gacha game" mechanics. Ultimately, Genshin Impact is a game of combat, random loot, and exploration.

The last of these key pillars of gameplay is perhaps the most important, and players can expect to spend a lot of time out in the sprawling world. Filling the void are numerous quests, some obvious, others well hidden. Perhaps one of the most challenging of Genshin Impact's quests requires players to open the Nine Pillars of Peace. Although time-consuming to complete, the rewards for doing so are worth the effort.

Updated July 15th, 2021 by John Higgs: Players are eagerly awaiting Genshin Impact 2.0, the update which will add the Inazuma region. The Japanese-inspired nation is sure to contain many more secrets and puzzles for players to solve, so now's the time to finish the Nine Pillars of Peace in Liyue. This can feel like a daunting task to new players and veterans. There is a lot that goes into opening the Nine Pillars of Peace. To better help equip players on their quest, the following guide has been updated for better clarity, with expanded information.

To begin the Nine Pillars of Peace quest, players will first need to find the pillars themselves in the center of Genshin Impact's Cuijue Slope region. The nine pillars form a rough circle, with an inscribed stone in the middle of them. Activating this stone will start the quest to enter the nearby temple.

To get inside, players must activate the nine pillars of Cuijue Slope. However, this can't be done until they've collected nine Stones of Remembrance, which can require quite a lot of leg-work. The only way to get Stones of Remembrance is to upgrade the Statues of the Seven in Liyue, which is done using Geolocus items. Geolocus are scattered all across the region, and often require players to climb or solve puzzles to unlock them. Once players have upgraded enough Statues to get nine Stones of Remembrance, they should head back to open the Nine Pillars.

The next step to entering the temple and completing the quest is to activate each pillar. This is done by climbing up to the orange glowing panel which can be found on each one, and interacting with it. Doing this will consume a Stone of Remembrance, and activate the pillar for the quest. It will also cause an exquisite chest to spawn below, with a possibility of enemies to guard it. These chests are rare, so players should make sure to loot each one before moving on to the next pillar. Here's a quick breakdown of the key steps so far:

  • Find the Nine Pillars of Peace in Genshin Impact's Cuijue Slope region.
  • Start the Nine Pillars Quest at the inscribed stone.
  • Acquire nine Stones of Remembrance by upgrading the Liyue Statues of the Seven.
  • Climb a pillar and interact with the glowing panel, consuming a Stone of Remembrance.
  • Loot the exquisite chest below, then repeat with the remaining towers.

Once all Nine Pillars of Peace have been completed, the gates of the temple will open. Inside, players will find several tough encounters waiting for them, so they should make sure to bring some of the best Genshin Impact characters. Anyone who successfully fights their way through the Ruin Guard, Geovishap Hatchlings, and Ruin Hunter will be rewarded. The chests at the end of the temple contain a Royal Flora Legendary Artifact, as well as a valuable ring that can be sold at Xigu Antiques or the Wanyou Boutique. In addition, the quest will complete, awarding the player with a good chunk of Adventure Rank XP.

Genshin Impact is available now on Mobile, PC, and PS4, and later on Switch.
