The new Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild trailer confirms Capcom's next animated spin-off film will officially stream on Netflix soon.

Current CG films based on video game franchises include the likes of Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV and Dragon Quest: Your Story. Now, another video game franchise will be presenting a CG-animated film to fans, as Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild will begin streaming on Netflix this August.

The Monster Hunter franchise has been very successful as of late, with multiple lucrative video game titles both released and on the horizon. Monster Hunter: World was released in January 2018, sold record franchise numbers, and was nominated for multiple Game Of The Year awards. Afterward, Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin were both released earlier this year to healthy sales numbers. Meanwhile, a live-action adaptation of the Monster Hunter franchise was attempted by Resident Evil film series director Paul W.S. Anderson and released in late 2020 but it was widely considered a critical and commercial misfire.

Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild is a feature film, but not by much since its runtime stands at a modest fifty-eight minutes. The film follows a young hunter named Aiden who teams up with a band of more experienced hunters to save his village from a menacing dragon. Legends of the Guild was made by Pure Imagination Studios, who previously developed the short film LEGO Jurassic World: Indominus Escape for The LEGO Group and Universal Studios. Directed by Hollywood visual effects supervisor Steve Yamamoto from a script written by The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes episode story writer Joshua Fine, Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild stars notable voice actors such as Erica Lindbeck, who voiced Black Cat in Marvel's Spider-Man.

Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild comes at a time when established entertainment franchises are dabbling in atypical mediums across the board. The Dragon Quest franchise has the anime series Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai premiering new episodes this Summer, while the Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 CG anime series is streaming on Netflix. Furthermore, Warner Bros. recently signed on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex chief writer Kenji Kamiyama to direct an anime film based on the Lord of the Rings franchise titled The War of the Rohirrim.

Capcom and other video game companies are no strangers to presenting CG-animated films based on their top-bill franchises. Their latest CG-animated Resident Evil series, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, was recently released to stream on Netflix and was met with warm reception.

So, Legends of the Guild may not be a groundbreaking feature film when it comes to animated spin-offs of licensed IPs. However, the film will likely garner the attention of Monster Hunter fans and potentially allow the franchise to gain some new followers along the way.

Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild streams on Netflix starting August 12th, 2021.
