Respawn Entertainment made a fantastic game but everyone needs a bit of variety in their lives. There are many great choices for games like Apex Legends that players can check out and enjoy.

Updated July 7th, 2021: Apex Legends is still an absolute powerhouse in the world of battle royale games as it looks to begin Season 10. Still, some players might want something to play while they wait for the season to start or to get a break from some of the issues with hackers and cheaters that have haunted the game. We've added some more battle royale games to this list to help fans scratch that gaming itch.

16 Realm Royale

Hi-Rez Studios have produced many hit games such as Smite and Paladins but Realm Royale stands out as something special. It plays like a fantasy version of other battle royales without the building aspects found in some of them. It's one of the best games for those new to the genre so it's a perfect choice to hop into and try.

15 CS:Go - Danger Zone

There is not a single fan of first-person shooters that hasn't heard of the Counter-Strike franchise. It's been a mainstay of the genre since the year 2000 and its battle royale version is just as strong. Danger Zone is a game mode added to Counter-Strike Global Offensive in 2018 that has the same tactical gameplay fans are used to from the series. If players have access to a copy of the game it's worth it to take the highway to the Danger Zone.

13 Fear The Wolves

Players that want an even deeper sense of reward when they defeat everyone else to survive should check out Fear The Wolves. Survival in this game means making it to the extraction point all while battling through the radiated wasteland around Chernobyl. The game has both solo and duo modes which fans of Apex Legends can certainly appreciate and features a theme not yet explored much in battle royale games.

12 Soviet Jump Game

Take a break from the shooting action to try a game that oozes with theme. Soviet Jump Game is a retro-styled platformer battler royale published by Game Grumps. Yes, the same Game Grumps from Youtube!

The original video made to build hype for the game was a fantastic piece of viral marketing that large studios couldn't manage. Making gaming fans think he found a lost Dendi game from Russia was brilliant and got so many people interested in playing the game once it was released.

11 Super Animal Royale

Gamers shouldn't let the cute and fuzzy animals fool them — this is one seriously competitive battle royale game. Super Animal Royale features 64 players per match and has a unique top-down perspective not seen in almost any other game in the genre. Plus, the community for the game is beyond stellar making it so players don't have to worry as much about the rough voice chats they may encounter on Apex Legends.

10 Call of Duty Warzone

The Call of Duty franchise is one of the most popular first-person shooters of all time so it should come as no surprise that its battle royale game is top quality. Warzone has the same kind of gameplay fans of the series enjoy with cross-platform play and a lot more players to take out at a time. It's one of the newest titles on the battle royale scene but will likely be a mainstay for years to come.

9 Survive.io

Survive.io is one of the most convenient battle royales to play as it's available in any web browser as well as on iOS and Android. This is the only major 2D game in the genre which gives it unique dynamics its competitors cannot offer. The game was designed with getting players quickly into matches and enjoying themselves as a primary goal and it shows.

8 Maelstrom

Players looking for an incredibly unique battle royale experience should look no further than Maelstrom. Instead of controlling single characters like other games in the genre, Maelstrom has players taking command of an entire sailing ship to destroy everyone else around while avoiding sea monsters and other dangers. It also features both solo and co-op modes just like Apex Legends.

7 Spellbreak

Fans of magical powers will adore this battle royale. Spellbreak has players pitting powerful battlemages against each other in battle. The game is easy to pick up for new players, has a unique theme compared to most standard battle royales, and is still receiving major updates to improve its quality. The game is also free-to-play making it easy for players to give it a try.

6 ASCII Battle Royale

Every battle royale player has gotten completely stomped on in a game. Every player has seen frustrating losing streaks as well. When players need a laugh to help them unwind, ASCII Battle Royale is a perfect choice. The game is like if Zork was somehow a battle royale and contains many satirical jabs at the genre.

The game was created by Caique Assis for Ludum Dare 41. Ludum Dare is one of the longest-running and famous game jams of all time and this combination of two incompatible genres is sure to be a fun diversion. Plus, it's technically a single-player battle royale game, which is mind-blowing to think about.

5 Worms Rumble

A battle royale inspired by a franchise that's been around since 1995, Worms Rumble has 32 players in a deathmatch with wacky weapons. It's the first 3D game in the Worms series and features cross-platform play. The game looks goofy on the surface but those that dig deep will find the game has far more strategy than meets the eye.

4 Hyper Scape

Hyper Scape was massive during its original launch but has slowed down a bit since then. Despite this, it's one of the most fast-paced battle royales out there with some truly unique mechanics. Players that value characters with fast movement options in Apex Legends will find this game simply has them for everyone on the battlefield. The game even has a hidden Apex Legends easter egg for fans to find.

3 Cuisine Royale

This game began as an April Fools Day joke but was so popular it ended up becoming a full game. Built to be a parody of PUBG, the game plays like most other games in the genre but with a twist: the armor and weapons in the game are all cooking items. Wearing a pot as a helmet while beating up players with a waffle iron is absolutely hilarious but the fantastic gameplay is what will hook players for the long run.

2 Ring Of Elysium

With two new maps released in 2021, there's no better time to try out Ring of Elysium. The game is set a bit more in reality than most battle royale games in terms of weapons, equipment, and themes. Players have to duke it out to survive and escape terrifying natural disasters. The gameplay can be quite intense which is perfect for seasoned Apex Legends players.

1 Fortnite

It would be a disservice if we didn't mention the largest battle royale game of all time. It's free-to-play, has a massive player base, and has more in-game events than players can shake a stick at. The game also has cross-platform play so those that try it will never be held back from playing with friends.

Many say that Apex Legends is the largest competitor of Fortnite but why pit the games against each other? Both are bound to be an absolute blast for fans of either game so players shouldn't hold back from giving them a try.
