Pokemon GO: Mythical Pokemon That Still Aren't in the Game

Pokemon GO keeps adding more and more Pokemon as time goes on, but there are still some key Mythical Pokemon who are missing from the game.

Pokemon GO has come a very long way with its offerings since it released in 2016. Starting with just the Generation 1 Pokemon, Niantic has steadily added each following generation. Now players have Pokemon from up to Generation 6 to fill their Pokedex with, and it has done wonders to give Pokemon GO a continued sense of longevity.

While there is some challenge in collecting the hundreds of common Pokemon that have been added to Pokemon GO so far, many players find particular excitement in the franchise's rare Mythical Pokemon. These Pokemon can't be obtained by normal means, as they're usually reserved for events such as Special Research tasks. Niantic has done a respectable job adding many of the early Mythical Pokemon from the franchise into the game up to this point, and the upcoming Pokemon GO Fest 2021 will be adding another. That being said, there are still many Mythical Pokemon that haven't been added yet.

Pokemon GO has released Mythical Pokemon from the Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn regions, but other regions have not had all of their Mythical Pokemon featured just yet. It appears that the game is jumping between Sinnoh and Unova right now, gradually adding Mythical Pokemon from each region instead of completely committing to one or the other. The following missing Pokemon are planned to release at some point in the future, as they have been given in-game models and game information. It's unclear when they will all be added, but it will likely be through some special event.

  • Phione - a pure Water-type and one half of the Sea Guardians.
  • Manaphy - the other half of the Sea Guardians, and also a pure Water-type.
  • Shaymin - a Grass-type Mythical that also has an alternate Sky form, making it a Grass/Flying-type.
  • Arceus - recently the focus of Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and is considered to be the "God" Pokemon. Its main type is Normal, but it can change to take on any of the other typings.
  • Keldeo - a Water/Fighting-type and one part of the Pokemon group called the Swords of Justice. Keldeo also has an alternate Resolute form.
  • Meloetta - who is a special case at the time of writing considering it will be released as a part of Pokemon GO Fest 2021. It has two forms which take on different typings. The Aria form is a Normal/Psychic-type, and the Pirouette form is a Normal/Fighting-type.

While Pokemon GO has gone great lengths to include a good chunk of the hundreds of Pokemon that exist, there are still some regions it hasn't gotten to yet. Niantic has been adding Kalos region Pokemon for the past few months, but there's still a whole two regions that it hasn't touched. While there has been some news on one of the following Mythical Pokemon, fans can only speculate on what these Pokemon will look like in-game and how they'll work until official assets are created.

  • Diancie -a Rock/Fairy-type who is currently the only Pokemon in this classification that is capable of Mega Evolution.
  • Hoopa - recently the subject of a Pokemon GO datamine that found evidence that could suggest Hoopa will be referenced in some capacity during the upcoming Pokemon GO Fest 2021. Hoopa has two forms, a Confined form that has Psychic/Ghost typing, and an Unbound form that has Psychic/Dark typing.
  • Volcanion - the first and only Fire/Water-type Pokemon.
  • Magearna - a Steel/Fairy-type with a second Original Color form that just changes its coloring.
  • Marshadow - a Fighting/Ghost-type.
  • Zeraora - a pure Electric-type.
  • Zarude - the newest Mythical Pokemon, and a Dark/Grass-type.

Mythical Pokemon are some of the most highly sought after no matter what Pokemon game they're in, so getting access to one in Pokemon GO can be particularly special. Hopefully as the game continues to evolve and hold more special events like Pokemon GO Fest, more of these Mythical Pokemon will be available for players to add to their Pokedex.

Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS devices.
