Nintendo recently announced the released of themed Joy-Cons for the rerelease of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Switch. And there was one eagle-eyed Redditor that noticed a fun detail about the new Joy-Cons.
Released on July 16th, the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Joy-Cons were almost immediately sold out everywhere. These purple and blue Joy-Cons are decorated with symbols important to the game like the winged Tri-Force, and were sold for $79.99 USD MSRP. The connection piece between the wrist strap and the Joy-Con is an ivory color, and the wrist strap itself is a swirl of teal and purple braided together. And a Redditor who studied these new color combinations noticed a fun detail about the wrist strap specifically.

Reddit user u/spannr posted their find to the Nintendo community on Reddit, showing the visual similarities between the Joy-Con's swirled strap and the Master Sword's handle. This is also the same pattern that appears on Skyward Sword's Fi's leggings in the game. The Joy-Con strap, the Master Sword handle, and the leggings all share the same color combinations as well as the diamond-shaped, argyle-style pattern.
To the untrained eye, the straps might look as though they don't match the game or the Joy-Con properly, and they may seem like a random choice for a color combination for the Skyward Sword Joy-Cons. But thanks to u/spannr, fans know now that the color combination not only belongs, but is also an inspired choice by Nintendo.
Joy-Cons have been something of a hot-button issue for Nintendo; between the Joy-Con drift that may also be present in the OLED model of the Switch to the high price point, Joy-Cons have been the center of most of the controversy for the Switch since its release in March of 2017. In spite of the problems with the controllers, however, the Nintendo Switch and all of its games and accessories do not seem to be slowing down; the Switch has sold a mind-blowing 84 million units as of March 2021.
Zelda and Nintendo Switch fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming years. The new OLED model of the Switch is set to be released in October 2021 and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 has a release date sometime in 2022. And hopefully, fans of the series will soon get more good news in the form of other re-releases for the Nintendo Switch of older Zelda games.
