Call of Duty: Warzone players use the XM4 in a variety of casual and competitive situations by understanding how to optimize its strengths.

After the initial integration of Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, fans had mixed feelings regarding new weapon options. It was not long until several fan-favorite rose to the top, with SMGs, assault rifles, and snipers all being picked regularly. Out of these, one assault rifle stands tall as the Call of Duty: Warzone meta ran with the XM4 as a primary for several months.

Assault Rifles are great for mid- to long-range engagements, and players often select one for their primary slot. While many Call of Duty: Warzone assault rifle loadouts prioritize recoil control, others lean toward maximizing bullet velocity and damage. The XM4 falls into the latter group as it gives reliable damage with good control for sustained firing at targets.

The XM4 from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a popular choice in Call of Duty: Warzone. The weapon is a full-auto assault rifle with reliable damage output. Its improved fire rate and fair control make it strong for long- to mid-range encounters and suppressive fire. Call of Duty: Warzone fans tend to maximize its damage and push for longer ranges to create a "laser" effect when firing this weapon. This can be done by increasing the bullet velocity and damage thresholds through a variety of attachment options.

When building a Call of Duty: Warzone loadout for an assault rifle, players normally start with the Muzzle slot. The Agency Suppressor is generally considered the best option when it comes to a muzzle attachment, but other players frequently run a Muzzle Brake 5.56 when stealth is not a priority. Either muzzle is best paired with a 13.5" Task Force barrel or a 13.7" Ranger Barrel depending on the player's recoil control competency.

Next, players should work toward recoil reduction with the Field Agent Grip on the Underbarrel slot. This can be traded out for FMJ or a similar perk, but it will sacrifice ADS time and limit mobility if not taken. To further increase mobility, players should look toward a stock attachment with the Raider Pad or SAS Combat Stock as popular options in Call of Duty: Warzone.

Finally, the weapon needs an extended magazine with most fans running the STANAG 60 RND or the Salvo 50 RND Fast Mag. Avoid using a handle attachment, as fans will sacrifice other powerful options with a less impactful slot. Similarly, Body attachments are not recommended as these weapons will rarely be hip-fired or need the recoil adjustment that lasers and spotlights provide.

The rest of the player's kit depends on the playstyle and design of the weapon attachments. Generally speaking, the first perk is usually applied to E.O.D or Cold-Blooded depending on the player's priorities and aggressive nature. The second perk selected should, in most cases, be Ghost, as it will allow fans a chance to reposition without being detected by UAVs or Heartbeat Sensors.

Alternatively, fans could run High Alert or Overkill for an extra gun or more information, depending on the strategy at play with this Call of Duty: Warzone assault rifle option. Players' last perk slot should use Spotter or Tracker to help in finding and securing targets. Spotter is great for equipment, but Tracker is better in solo play environments.

Call of Duty: Warzone equipment follows a similar thinking as Tactical Rifles. Lethal and Tactical options should be used for maneuvering and suppression, making Stun Grenades and Thermite Grenades popular choices. However, Smoke Grenades can offer a unique opportunity for a tactical retreat or a gutsy assault maneuver.

Secondary weapon options include a variety of handguns, but if paired with a primary through ground loot or overkill, players should side it with a sniper or SMG. The weapon is designed for long- to mid-range combat, and an SMG can often become useful to dealing with a close-range engagement.

  • Muzzle: Agency Suppressor
  • Barrel: 13.7" Ranger Barrel
  • Stock: Raider Pad
  • Underbarrel: Field Agent Grip
  • Ammunition: Salvo 50 RND Fast Mag

The attachments for the XM4 rely on accuracy and aggressive playstyles to work. The Agency Suppressor will increase damage, bullet velocity, and silence shots, while the 13.7" Range Barrel extends the weapon's range. The Field Agent Grip and Raider Pad make this a mobile Call of Duty: Warzone loadout offering reduced recoil and faster maneuvering throughout the battlefield. Finally, the Salvo 50 RND Fast Mag offers quick reloads along with powerful ammunition designed to rip enemies apart in combat.

For perks, players should use Cold-Blooded, Ghost, and Tracker. This gives the player the stealth they will need to engage a target, and Tracker helps follow evading footprints and eliminating threats. These perks are paired well with Stun and Thermite Grenades, the idea being to suppress enemy movement and push into hostile engagements with lethal precision.

Secondary weapons should either be a 1911 pistol or a Diamatti, depending on personal preference. Each pistol comes with high damage and, in a close-range scenario, could save a player's life. The sidearm could be replaced with a sniper, shotgun, or SMG, depending on preference. In general, a Call of Duty: Warzone SMG would be preferred as it does not duplicate ammo consumption and can deal with close-quarter engagements quickly and efficiently. Still, a sniper could come in handy for scouting and eliminating long-range threats with precision while remaining undetected.

The XM4 can be used to eliminate and dominate in solo and team-based game modes. While the weapon has received some nerfs since its initial implementation, Call of Duty: Warzone fans will find it to be a reliable gun in most situations. The loadout and build can be augmented for varying encounters, but the best route is to play off the stability and fast rate of fire that comes naturally to the XM4 rifle. Stay out of close-range engagements and be sure to press the advantage when an enemy moves to retreat. The range on the XM4 will ensure hits even at longer ranges in Call of Duty: Warzone.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
