Star Wars actor Ahmed Best expressed interest in playing Mr. Fantastic in Fantastic Four, and it would actually make a lot of sense.

The season finale of Loki kicked up conversations throughout the Marvel fandom. Who is this Kang the Conqueror? Where could the series possibly go in its now inevitable 2nd season? What does the actor behind Jar Jar Binks have to say about all this, and which Fantastic Four hero does he want to play now?

Well that last one might not have been one of the more burning questions permeating the internet, but that doesn't mean it wasn't answered. Ahmed Best himself, known for playing Jar Jar Binks in the Star Wars prequel trilogy (and in several episodes of The Clone Wars) decided to not only enter the ever-present Marvel discourse, but even went one step further by offering up a rather inspired casting suggestion.

A few days after Loki's season finale dropped on Disney Plus, film critic and professor Zaki Hasan posed a thought on Twitter regarding the newly revealed multi-dimensional villain Kang the Conqueror (referred to on the show as "He Who Remains"). He mused that, since Kang is supposedly a far flung descendant of Fantastic Four's Reed Richards, and the character is being played by Black actor Jonathan Majors, it stands to reason that Reed Richards (a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic) can and should also be played by a Black actor when he's finally introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Best quoted the tweet, voicing his support and then some by saying "Officially throwing my hat in that ring." In a rather heartwarming display, his replies were quickly filled with supportive fans enthusiastically agreeing with the idea. One user humorously suggested that the "hat" Best threw in the metaphorical ring should be the Jar Jar Binks-shaped one he wore while filming the Star Wars movies, while others gave in to their dad-like nature and praised the idea as "the BEST choice" before quickly showing themselves out.

Seeing Mr. Fantastic portrayed by a Black actor would certainly not be an unprecedented move, as Michael B. Jordan played the role of the typically white Johnny Storm in the most recent film adaptation of Fantastic Four. Casting Best in the role would not only add even more much needed diversity to the MCU, but could also give Best the real shot he deserves at another potentially career-defining role. Best notoriously suffered years of toxic torment from Star Wars fans for his portrayal of Jar Jar Binks, so casting him in a lead role like this feels like the least he's owed.

Of course, some may argue that Marvel should focus more on acting talent than skin color. But while that point might make sense on the surface, the fact is that both diversity and performance can be equal priorities without compromising on either one. Representation matters, and this casting choice might just be the "Best" idea for everyone, even if John Krasinski has also shown his own interest.

Fantastic Four is currently in development at Marvel Studios.
