Developers at EA Motive confirm that the upcoming Dead Space remake game will not have a controversial feature from Dead Space 3.

When Dead Space 3 launched, it did so with controversial features that seemingly hurt the game's appeal in the eyes of fans, resulting in sales that failed to meet EA's expectations. While Dead Space 3's use of co-op definitely didn't sit well with pure horror enthusiasts, the most controversial feature was quite easily its use of microtransactions. Dead Space 3's microtransactions let players pay to get an advantage in the game and were widely criticized as a result. Dead Space fans will be happy to know that the controversial feature won't be making a comeback in the remake.

The recently revealed Dead Space remake will not feature microtransactions, with developer EA Motive saying that it never plans on adding them to the game. While EA is known for having games with microtransactions, it has shown a willingness recently to release narrative-driven experiences with no microtransactions, like 2019's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and It Takes Two, the critically-acclaimed co-op game that launched earlier this year.

Speaking to IGN, EA Motive suggested that while the Dead Space remake won't have microtransactions from Dead Space 3, it will still be bringing in some features from future entries. Apparently, the team is looking into bringing Dead Space 2's zero gravity mechanic to the remake. It seems players may also be able to look forward to the Dead Space remake introducing story beats that weren't touched on until the sequels to create a more comprehensive narrative.

This makes sense when one considers that the Dead Space remake is also a reboot of the franchise. This way future Dead Space installments can expand on the narrative in a more meaningful way, helping players better understand the overarching story.

As it stands, very little else is known about the Dead Space remake. The Dead Space remake trailer showed a derelict spaceship, franchise hero Isaac Clarke, and a brief look at a Necromorph, but not much else. The game has no release window in sight, either, so it might be quite some time before Dead Space fans learn more about the remake and what exactly it's bringing to the table.

What we do know about the Dead Space remake is that it is powered by the Frostbite Engine and will be a next-gen only game. The Dead Space remake coming only to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X should ensure that it is able to deliver graphics that are truly cutting-edge, and with proven studio EA Motive leading development, it seems sci-fi horror fans have a lot to look forward to.

Dead Space is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
