In Pokemon Unite, players unlock new playable Pokemon by purchasing Unite Licenses, but each of these has a different cost associated with it.

Pokemon Unite does a good job of setting up the player with a few different Pokemon to choose between, but players wanting to unlock more will need to purchase Unite Licenses for them. These licenses allow players to use new playable Pokemon in Unite Battles, and players will likely want to collect all of them eventually. That said, they are a bit expensive, so it will definitely take some time if players are trying to stay free to play. Unite Licenses can be purchased with either Aeos Coins won from battles or Aeos Gems, the premium currency that players can buy or earn from events.

There are 20 playable Pokemon in Pokemon Unite at the moment, and 19 of them have Unite Licenses that can be purchased. The 20th Pokemon is Zeraora, who is unlocked simply by logging in before August 21st. Players will get to start with one Pokemon and may earn others through leveling up or other means, but the rest must be purchased conventionally.

In order to purchase Unite Licenses, players need to head to the shop. From here, enter the Unite Battle Committee (UBC) to browse and purchase the licenses. These cost anywhere between 6,000 Aeos Coins and 10,000 Aeos Coins, but they can also be purchased with Aeos Gems. These prices range from 345 Aeos Gems to 575 Aeos Gems, but this currency is harder to obtain without paying real money. Regardless of which methods players choose to use, purchasing a Unite License will permanently unlock that character. Below are the prices of each Pokemon's Unite License.

  • Charizard License - 6000 Aeos Coins - 345 Aeos Gems
  • Eldegoss License - 6000 Aeos Coins - 345 Aeos Gems

Players get to start the game with one of the low cost Pokemon, and then they should get the Slowbro Unite License once they hit level 2 by completing the tutorial. This means that in total players must buy 17 Unite Licenses in order to unlock all Pokemon. Theoretically, this would cost 138,000 Aeos Coins in order to unlock all characters for free.

Pokemon Unite is available now on Switch and later on Mobile.
