Set in the irradiated ruins of Chernobyl, The Farm 51's upcoming science fiction RPG horror title Chernobylite is proving to be an interesting game that blends horror, role-play and stunning visuals. The nuclear disaster horror already has a PC and new-gen console release date. Now, the developer has announced that the game will be coming to PS4 and Xbox One this September through a new trailer.
Not only that, but PlayStation 4 users will also be treated to a physical release, which comes with an art book, map, and some additional bonuses as well. Although a sci-fi game, Chernobylite is mainly a horror in which players will battle against monsters in the Exclusion Zone, an area roughly 2,600 square km in diameter which surrounds the Chernobyl nuclear site in the Ukraine.

Probably one of the most interesting aspects of the game is the visuals. In the new Chernobylite trailer, it shows filmed footage of parts of the disaster site, and then shows the in-game versions, comparing the real from the facsimile. This shows the painstaking work the developer has gone into in order to realistically replicate the reality of the area, using photos, videos, and 3D scans. The fact that the team actually went to the site in order to get a sense of where the game will take place shows a huge commitment to the project.
While it seems to take inspiration from the likes if S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, its attention to detail could set it apart from other games of this ilk. The game will have some crafting elements as well, so with the RPG, horror and science fiction aspects all pulling together to bring Chernobylite alive, it seems like it's throwing a lot of stuff at the wall to see what sticks. Fans are hopeful that this method pays off in the end due to how intriguing it looks.
At the moment, the gaming world is experiencing something of a horror golden age. With the likes of the mysterious, yet controversial Abandoned game coming to PS5 and PC, Chernobylite will sit comfortably in a genre that has been in full swing for several years now, especially with huge hits such as Resident Evil Village breaking new grounds. The trailer itself shows that the Chernobyl-based title has a lot to show off and could be a fantastic and scary entry that sits along some of its contemporary greats.
Chernobylite is out on PC on July 28, and PS4 and Xbox One September 7, with Xbox Series and PS5 versions coming as well.
