Open world games have been getting better over the last couple of generations. The previous-gen which centered around the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 really honed in the genre. The eighth-generation consoles housed some of the most memorable open-world games. With the technology of these consoles that now match some high-end PCs, open-world games are only getting better.

Now with the ninth generation of consoles that are out, the genre can only get better going forward. The PlayStation 5 is already building off the success of its predecessor with open-world games, by having them bigger and more immersive. The result of this is gamers win, they can continue getting triple-A games. However, these open-world games that are coming to the PS5 may have flown out of people's radar, because not much has been talked about with these games. But, that's about to change.
5 Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Based on James Cameron's mega-hit in 2009, Avatar, this open-world shooter is going to take full advantage of next-gen hardware. Players in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will assume the role of a Na'vi, which is the race the populates Pandora and will fight back against the humans. The game can act as a great entry point for people who've never played the game, however, it can also pull people away basing on interest.
With the new technology under the hood of the PS5, players will be able to explorer the planet and see all the life-like details. It's a good building block to further expand the universe. But because it's a multi-media property it'll be interesting to see how it's expanding. Game makers, Ubisoft will have a task ahead of them connecting all the lore. 4 Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy
The Harry Potter games in the past have been a hit or miss. So when the announcement for Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy dropped earlier, fans were over the moon. Set in 1800, the game will have players choosing their house and learning new magical skills. On paper, this seems like a great addition to the franchise. Players who aren't familiar with the magical world of Harry Potter can jump into this with ease.

Focusing on exploration, players can go to areas that they've seen in the movies and really feel like they are a part of the world. Players like freedom and being able to customize their characters. Hogwarts Legacy offers just that, players can completely make their characters their own. However, Hogwarts Legacy won't be out till next year, but players can enjoy these games to maintain the hype.
3 GhostWire Tokyo
This is probably the most talked-about game compared to others on this list. But Ghostwire Tokyo seems to have fallen out of games media because other bigger games are coming out sooner. Set in Tokyo, players must find out why its citizens are disappearing and what paranormal energy is causing all of this. Using the power of the PS5, Ghostwire Tokyo can make exploring the dense city of Tokyo an interesting experience.
And also because the new consoles can render bigger cities easier, so players will literally feel they're in the city at a 1:1 scale. Open-world games early innovate the genre expect to make the world bigger, however, Ghostwire Tokyo looks promising enough that it could change the genre. Sadly, it has been delayed to 2022, but it now may be better than it was.
2 Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice Leauge
With superhero media, both in video games and movies being extremely popular, it makes sense to make a new game with the trend. From the makers of the Batman Arkham series, Rocksteady is back. This time trying their hand in an anti-hero-type game, centered around the Suicide Squad which is based in the Arkham universe. The announcement has fans already throwing in names of characters they'd like to see.

So seeing the community already getting ready for Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is a rare sight. However he skepticism is that Batman games haven't been the best. In fact, it was until just recently till gamers have gotten really good Batman games. Rocksteady's resume has clearly shown the community they know what they're doing. With this new post-Batman endeavor players can look forward to Suicide Squad knowing it's in safe hands.
1 Gotham Knights
Taking the same essence as the Suicide Squad game with superheroes, Gotham Knights sets its own mark. Set in a separate universe out of Rocksteady's Arkham series, the players take the role of the "bat family". Batman is missing and is set in an iconic storyline that only well-versed fans will pick up. One of the best parts of Gotham Knights is that it's a co-op.
Sadly the template for these types of games is the Arkham games so the bar is high. While gamers are welcoming Gotham Knight they are also on the fence. Mainly because with these types of games, the Arkham-style gameplay fits. The main issue is to avoid another Avengers situation with post content and other things to keep players engaged. So by keeping players engaged, the developers can avoid that situation.
