Genshin Impact: Every Playable Cryo User, Ranked | Game Rant

There are a handful of great Cryo users in Genshin Impact. Here's a look at all of them.

In Genshin Impactit became incredibly prevalent how important elemental abilities are. Plenty of adventure games have open worlds, Zelda: Breathe of the Wild is among the many that bring this experience to fans. However, very few make the elements blend with such fierce complexity as Genshin Impact does; from fiery Pyro to grassy Dendro, the game wouldn't be the same without the seven elements.

Among the seven, no element quite makes the impact that Cryo does. With 8 playable Cryo users, it has the most characters outside of Pyro. This isn't to mention the actual effects of the elemental status, which is the only so far to slow opponents. That said, some Cryo users make more of an impression than others.

8 Kaeya

Granted, Kaeya may have the most use in the early game of the five free characters. However, of his Cryo colleagues, Kaeya doesn't quite make the cut due to his limited potential in battle.

While his skill is easy to use, it ultimately is fairly underwhelming compared to other Cryo skills. The same can be said of his burst, though both are still useful from a support basis. On the other hand, Kaeya is a great utility/exploring character, but not much outside of that without heavy building.

For those that do want to use Kaeya in their teams, a good team composition can make up for his flaws. Players will find Kaeya's support build to be most efficient, working to enabler Cryo reactions. All in all, Kaeya works well with hard-hitting Pyro and Electro characters, like Diluc or Beidou.

7 Rosaria

Kaeya may be the earliest Cryo character, but feisty Rosaria was introduced a little bit more recently. Of course, her design learned from Kaeya's flaws. She offers heavy-hitting skills and burst, at least for a 4-star character.

That said, Rosaria has a few major flaws. Her attacks are quick, with a fair lack of infusion compared to others like Chongyun. Outside of being a DPS character, there aren't many easy-to-build advantages to using Rosaria compared to other Cryo users. These are, of course, fixable with a good build, however, she also lacks exploring benefits found in Kaeya; Rosaria is notably lacking the easy ability to make ice bridges.

6 Chongyun

After Rosaria, Cryo 4-stars start to become more average in most areas. Chongyun may be the best middle-point for Cryo users, not being terrible yet not excelling in anything to an extreme.

Overall, Chongyun is best described as a Cryo support or DPS. As a support, Chongyun specializes in enabling reactions by creating a Cryo infusion zone with his elemental skill. Of course, this strategy has the flaw of infusing all attacks; the character causing the reaction should refrain from using their attacks in Chongyun's zone.

On the other hand, Chongyun can also act as a Cryo DPS by causing reactions in his zone. However, this strategy also has its flaws as it makes the enabler's job more difficult for the same infusion reasons. In the end, while Chongyun is a perfectly good Cryo user, players should be aware of the peculiarities of his talents.

5 Diona

Many Genshin Impact players may be tempted to skip over Diona when choosing a Cryo character. Yet, this makes for one of the biggest mistakes in the game, as fans overwhelmingly lose a high-quality healer and support.

Versatility is Diona's biggest asset. Though she doesn't necessarily master any one skill, she has enough diversity to fill in multiple roles in a pinch: healing, enabling, shielding, and more. Her most notable feature can be found in her healing, which creates a zone of healing that also applies Cryo status.

Composition-wise, Diona can be paired with most characters. However, given that a Cryo support healer build is advised, a Pyro or Electro DPS is advised. This way, Diona can use her Cryo talents to enable the DPS's attacks better, while being boosted by the main healer and additional enabler/sub-DPS.

4 Eula

Coming into play just after Rosaria, Eula offers a lot of her benefits and more. Generally speaking, there are two types of DPS in Genshin Impact: characters that offer incremental, consistent damage over time, and characters that utilize their high critical damage to one-shot opponents with their talents.

Eula excels in the latter, dealing heavy damage should her burst land just the right way. Naturally, this can take some practice to perfect, as few have a timed ability quite like hers. However, none make for better offensive prowess against larger, defense-driven opponents should players get it right.

In addition, Eula makes for a more stable DPS than others. Her elemental skill increases her resistance to being interrupted, and more importantly, boosts her base defense stats. As such, players can focus less on pairing Eula with defensive characters (like Zhongli and Noelle) and more on high-tier enablers for her reactions.

3 Qiqi

Healing is a necessary skill, especially in a game as fast-paced as Genshin Impact. Although Qiqi does have her flaws, she is without a doubt the best healer among Cryo users. Granted, she can be outdone by other healers, but she also has the benefit of being a Cryo user.

Some of the best healers in the game are Jean and Noelle, who openly compete with Qiqi based on their versatility. However, given their Anemo and Geo status, they lack the ability to be enablers; Qiqi's talents allow her to apply Cryo status, giving her a distinct advantage. In the end, Qiqi ranks highly among Cryo users for her high healing abilities, additional enabling ability, and her offensive scaling as a sword user.

2 Ayaka

The newest member of the Cryo roster, Ayaka's move set makes for one of the most unique in the game. Most stunningly, her sprint actually has an impact on her combat; Ayaka features an icy alternative sprint, which infuses her blade with Cryo energy.

In addition to a burst and skill that helps apply Cryo status to crowds, Ayaka makes for a natural support or Cryo DPS. That said, she also has a few flaws that limit her to second place among Cryo users. Players that aren't used to technically using sprint in battle may find the extra button difficult to get used to. In addition, she is fairly light, making her both less defensively minded and more difficult to build as a DPS.

In the end, however, players will find that Ayaka is the best among Cryo supports, with sub-DPS potential. When pairing Ayaka, fans are advised to include a good DPS with Pyro or Electro attacks, a defensive support, and a healer given Ayaka's lighter constitution.

1 Ganyu

Few characters, in general, can even touch Ganyu, much less among Cryo users. With amazing attacks against both single opponents and crowds, she makes for one of the top DPS characters in the game (not even mentioning her kill-zone of an elemental burst.) As far as support goes, Ganyu also provides one of the easiest Cryo applications and a skill that distracts opponents.

Of course, like all characters in Genshin Impact, Ganyu does have her limitations. Like other bow users (including Diona,) the Qixing secretary suffers from easy interruptions. And, of course, with strong attacks comes long energy recharge and cooldowns. However, most of these are fixable, and easily dwarfed by her intense DPS capabilities.
