With rumors flying around for some time now, horror fans were excited when EA announced that it would be doing a remake of the 2008 sci-fi survival shooter Dead Space. It was also recently announced that the remake will have a big upgrade compared to the original game, such as this iteration having zero loading screens. Now, new information has come to light that suggests that fans will be treated to some content not experienced before.
In a recent interview with IGN, Motive's creative director Roman Campos-Oriola said the studio had access to assets from Dead Space, which has enabled the team to find some aspects that were cut from the 2008 release. Campos-Oriola expressed interest in putting these back into the game, much of which seems to be part of the original game's level design.

The studio has also said the remake will not contain any microtransactions, which is undoubtedly a pleasing thing to read about, as well as surprising given that EA is overseeing the project. Perhaps one of the downsides to all of this is that the Dead Space remake is not coming to previous-gen consoles. On the one hand, it means that gamers who have yet to get hold of a PS5 or Xbox Series S|X, mainly due to supply issues, risk missing out on the remake unless they have a modern PC or laptop.
On the other hand, it could be argued that optimizing the game for new-gen systems has the potential to push things forward in terms of technical prowess, rather than having to downplay new features for the sake of making the game compatible with older hardware.
A lot of information that's surfacing about the remake suggests this could be a fantastic reboot of this much-loved horror title. Not only will there be new content, no microtransactions, and zero loading screens, one of the developers who worked on Dead Space 2 will be returning for the remake. The art director on the sequel, Michael "Mike" Yazijan, had an impact on how the game looked, so his knowledge of how to create a terrifying Dead Space game will be invaluable for this iteration.
Depending on how well it's received, this could start a wave of other spooky games being remade. There is an argument to be had that other horror games are screaming out for a remake. There's a lot of old games that are rife for a modern redo and the Dead Space remake, along with the Resident Evil remakes, of course, could kick-start a new trend of reviving older horror titles.
The Dead Space remake is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
