A Red Dead Redemption 2 player channels their inner John Wick and devastates the Saint Denis police force after their horse dies.

Red Dead Redemption 2's storyline is filled with memorable and impactful characters from Arthur Morgan and Sadie Adler to John Marston and Hosea Matthews. For some players, however, one of the best bonds they form is with the companion they are around the most: their horse. It is because of this bond that when the worst happens and their horse dies in Red Dead Redemption 2 it can be truly devastating. Unfortunately for u/Free-Dragonfruit-887 exactly that happened and their intense response has caught the attention of the game's subreddit.

Players soon find out that horses take on a character of their own in Red Dead Redemption 2. With a wide world and a distinct lack of other transportation, horses are crucial to exploring the world in Red Dead Redemption 2. The developers added in to this title the responsibility of caring for and feeding the player's horse and it, in part, has helped players grow even more attached to their companions.

For u/Free-Dragonfruit-887, their horse's untimely demise did not go over well. Their post shows a gruesome scene with bodies littered all over the interior of a building. At least 15 Saint Denis police officers lay shot to death in the image and all due to the fact that u/Free-Dragonfruit-887's horse was killed by one member of the police force. The comments on the post only agree with this level of retribution in Red Dead Redemption 2. With a strong dislike for the Saint Denis police department in the community, taking down a handful of officers is likely not going to get any opposition on this subreddit.

Now for those players who are thinking of similar retribution it should be noted that this body count is likely going to run up a bounty of about $1500. No insignificant number for most players at any point in the game. But, the fact that u/Free-Dragonfruit-887 was willing to run up this tab goes to show the dedication this game can instill in players with regard to their horses.

The realism adds a new layer to the bonds players likely formed in the original Red Dead Redemption with their horses. Keeping horses clean, properly fed, and well looked after takes time and helps add to that bond. Overall this approach has helped foster the environment in which players are willing to go on rampages to avenge their fallen four-legged friends.

But that realism doesn't hit all players the same way. Adding in new layers and responsibilities to an already successful formula can take players out of the world. Regardless of feelings about the approach Rockstar took, most players can agree that losing their horse is a tragedy in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available right now for Google Stadia, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
