It is hard to believe that Skate 3 was released more than 10 years ago. Despite its age, the game still looks and feels like a modern game. Although, console players will have to navigate the old system interfaces. Skate 3 is an incredibly fun game to play, and available on all platforms for just a few dollars. People will have a hard time finding a game as enjoyable as Skate 3 for the price.

One of the most popular exploits in the game is the Skate 3 speed glitch. Anyone can learn the speed glitch, which allows skaters to soar across the map. While the buttons to press are simple, gamers will need a few tips to master the mechanics. This guide will cover everything people need to know to perform the perfect speed glitch.
Updated on July 25, 2021 by Payton Lott: There are actually a handful of ways to perform a speed glitch in Skate 3. If the backwards speed glitch is not working, a few other alternatives are included at the end of this article. On next gen consoles with 60 fps, timing is a lot more difficult than it used to be. Before giving up, make sure to try all of the speed glitch methods. If all else fails, reducing frames to 30 may be the only way to pull off the glitch. Of course, if an old Xbox or PS is laying around, playing on that console will make speed glitching much easier.
It is important to set up in the right direction and place a marker before attempting the speed glitch. Gamers should always set the marker after they have thrown their board. Because of how the glitch works, the character will be shot out in an awkward direction. Players will need to face the opposite way of their intended path. Goofy footers should turn the character slightly to the left, and regular footers need to turn slightly to the right. The weird setup and direction will all make sense once people see the glitch in-game.

- Throw board (RT or R2)
- Face directly away from the target
- Turn and move slightly to the left if Goofy OR
- Turn and move slightly to the tight if regular
- Set marker after board is thrown and in position
The initial movement players will want to practice is jumping up and down. The default button to jump is X on Xbox and square on PS. One of the keys to pulling off the perfect glitch is timing the top of the jump. The glitch will not work if the jump is mistimed.
At the top of the jump, gamers will need to press RB or R1. If performed correctly the character's arm should flail while in the air. The only remaining step is to press Y or Triangle right after pressing RB/R1. It seems way too simple for a full-fledged guide on paper, but getting the timing down can be frustrating. If pressing RB/R1 at the peak does not work, people may have a better success rate if they press the button just as the skater begins to descend.

- Press X/square to jump
- Press RB/R1 at the peak of the jump
- Press Y/triangle to summon the board
There are a few tells which indicate what the user is doing wrong. Pressing Y too early will result in the skater just hopping on the board. On the contrary, pressing Y too late will cause the character to bail. Players will fail a number of times before they can get the timing down.
Doing the glitch is like riding a bike if gamers can get the timing right. Jumping and pressing RB/R1 at the peak of the jump is easy, so the most important step will be summoning the board. People can use the tips above to understand whether they are pulling the board too early or too late. The difference between a successful Skate 3 speed glitch and failure is less than a fraction of a second. Performing the glitch is all about feel, which will take practice to master.
- Character jumps on board without moving: Player pressed Y/triangle too early
- Character bails and misses the landing: Player pressed Y/triangle too late
If the character model pulls in the board at the right time, it will send the skater into hyperspace while going fakie. Most of the time, the player will be going faster than normal, which is enough to clear small gaps and pull off a few tricks. However, if the camera zooms away from the character model, it is a perfect Skate 3 speed glitch.
Skaters will be traveling fast enough to clear unfathomable gaps across the map. Using just a small ramp or transition is enough to send a skater flying into the stratosphere.
While the backward glitch is the proper way to get the most speed in-game, there are several different ways to speed glitch in Skate 3. The easiest of which is the cannonball speed glitch. This was the first method discovered when the game was released. However, there are a few other methods to generate more speed.
To cannonball speed glitch, players will want to drop their board and move forward. Press A/X , then X/square shortly afterward. While holding X/square down, push up on the right thumbstick to cannonball. The only remaining step is to press Y/triangle before hitting the ground.
- Drop board
- Run Forward
- A/X, then immediately press X/square
- Up on right thumbstick
- Y/triangle to summon the board
This Skate 3 speed glitch is like the above method minus the cannonball. Hold RB/R1 while pressing the other buttons. As soon as the skater is in the air, let go of RB and summon the board. Like the backwards summon glitch, the character's arms will raise if the timing is correct.
- Same as above plus RB/R1
- Hold RB/R1 until the skater jumps
- Release RB and summon the board
Once players know how to speed glitch with RB/R1, they can attempt the high pump speed glitch. First, people will need to figure out which button the high pump gesture is mapped to. This will be the only additional button that needs to be pressed.

Use the same method as the RB/R1 glitch, but press the high pump button on the D-pad first. Before the character's hands go all the way up, press RB/R1. It should look like the skater is awkwardly hugging someone. Next, repeat the steps above to get a little more speed.
- Press D-pad button for high pump
- Press RB/R1 before the skater's hands go all the way up
- Repeat RB/R1 instructions
Many have reported that the glitch will only work on easy mode, but this appears to differ depending on the console and player. Those struggling may want to attempt the glitch on easy mode. Another thing to keep in mind is the frame rate upgrades from the 360/PS3 to the Xbox One/PS4.
With at least 30-60 frames on the Xbox One/PS4, it is harder to time pressing the summon button. This is because frame rounding on less than 30 fps will make the sequence more forgiving. Trying on easy mode and lowering fps will make performing the glitch much more straightforward.
