World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14 streamer Asmongold discusses his gameplay concerns for another upcoming MMORPG, New World.

Although Final Fantasy 14 is enjoying a resurgence in popularity and drawing long-time World of Warcraft players away from the king of MMOs, there's an upcoming game that wants its share of the MMO audience. New World is developed by Amazon Games and set in a fictionalized version of 1600's North/South America. It will use a buy-to-play model with no subscription cost, but New World will have paid cosmetics and XP boosters for players willing to shell out money. However, it's already under fire from prominent gamers in its closed beta period.

Popular Twitch streamer Asmongold is one of these critics, and he's put well over 100 hours into the latest closed beta. Lately he's been stirring up public interest in Final Fantasy 14, but it seems he's looking at giving New World a try as well. But for Asmongold, some key aspects of the game need to be improved if Amazon Games wants to have a successful launch. In a recent YouTube video, Asmongold listens to New World criticism from another streamer, KiraTV, and interjects with his own thoughts.

Asmongold's first major criticism of New World early on in the video is that it simply isn't ready to release in a month. "It is so dysfunctional, it is so laggy, it is so broken," he says. He feels that while the trading system contributes to New World's success in making players a part of a community, the already slow system will get even slower once many more people join the game. The game's core movement and attack pattern motion tracking is also a point of contention for him, as he compares it to if Amazon "hired a crackhead, and they put the motion trackers on him, and they said 'go have fun.'"

New World's main story quest line also doesn't escape Asmongold's ire. He demonstrates his issues with quests by getting up from his seat and actually acting them out, and his frustration seems to stem from the game's apparent poor objective recognition and quests that are full of bugs. Although he does say New World's crafting is good, he worries about the prevalence of endgame items that don't have a way to leave the economy, which might lead to a situation where "everybody just has the best gear in the game."

While some of these criticisms are just one person's opinion, the game has unfortunately run into performance issues with many closed beta players. The most notorious may be New World bricking 3090 GPUs, although others have reported problems with other CPUs and GPUs. How Amazon Games plans on addressing these issues before August 31 remains to be seen, but hopefully the company puts in good work from now until then to achieve a solid launch for the new MMORPG.

New World is scheduled to be released on August 31 for PC.
