Fair-Play Points are a system in Pokemon Unite that incentivizes gamers to be good sports, but how exactly do players earn or lose points?

Pokemon Unite is a MOBA that embraces the spirit of cooperation and friendly competition. To incentivize players to be good sports, Pokemon Unite utilizes the Fair-Play Points system. The existence of this system is not made readily apparent via any tutorials or the main hub menu. Players who are not fully familiar with the Fair-Play Points system can use this guide to learn how to get Fair-Play Points in Pokemon Unite.

All players start with 100 Fair-Play Points upon creating their Pokemon Unite account. This score will decrease as a result of unsportsmanlike activity that may ruin the experience for other players. Those who have 90 or more Fair-Play Points can navigate to the Fair-Play Points tab in the Trainer Info menu to claim a reward every day. This daily reward comes in the form of 20 Aeos Coins, useful for unlocking Pokemon in Pokemon Unite.

Trainers who drop below the 100 point maximum gain get Fair-Play points back by participating in a few different game modes.

Players can earn back Fair-Play Points by completing matches without exhibiting any malicious or unsportsmanlike behavior, but it should be noted that only 5 Fair-Play Points can be awarded per day. Playing naturally and focusing on team-based objectives such as targeting wild Pokemon like Drednaw is the best way to get back in good standing. Different game modes award different amounts of Fair-Play Points:

  • Standard Battle Random Match: +2 points
  • Standard Battle CPU Match: +1 point
  • Ranked Match: +2 points

Fair-Play Points are deducted as a consequence of any behavior that hinders other players or is generally unsportsmanlike. Abandoning a match is one example of this, though a unanimous surrender in Pokemon Unite is not considered malicious by any means. The following actions in any game mode will result in varying amounts of Fair-Play Points to be deducted:

  • Abandoning a Matchmade Team: -1 point
  • Idling in Battle (Short-Term): -2 points
  • Idling in Battle (Extended): -5 points
  • Idling in Battle (Malicious): -8 points

Players who take the game seriously and act with respect are more likely to improve over time. Those who intentionally idle for the sake of being carried to victory, or who abandon a losing match, will miss out on opportunities to learn through practical experience. In all likelihood, trainers with a high number of Fair-Play Points will achieve more Medals after a match in Pokemon Unite. With Pokemon Unite garnering a lot of attention, fans can expect that the game will have a lot of staying power. The growing community can only benefit from the presence of trainers with a fair-play mindset.

Pokemon Unite is available now on Switch and releases for Mobile in September.
