Call of Duty Mobile fans have no shortage of content to enjoy. The game thrives due to it being a platform for all Call of Duty content, with developer TiMi Studios doing a fine job at delivering plenty of fan service for players. However, one area where the studio believes it let players down was its Zombies mode. Fortunately, fans will soon have another chance to see what a well-realized Zombies experience on Call of Duty Mobile could look like.
Call of Duty Mobile’s Zombies mode was removed over a year ago due to TiMi Studios claims that it did not meet their quality standards. With the developer saying it could return one day, and surveys hinting at the possibility of a comeback getting fans excited, many should be happy to know that Zombies will be back starting on July 31. While this Season 6 addition is welcome due to the long window of time since Zombies was last available, the way the mode works and the characters involved make it particularly intriguing.
While there were plenty of ways to improve Call of Duty Mobile’s original Zombies mode, TiMi Studios is going the way of something entirely new. The mode will see players dropping into a Dark Aether version of the Isolated battle royale map. They will then need to survive five days and five nights, with scavenging taking place during the day and the undead attacking upon nightfall. Players will also have to protect their mobile base from the Zombies, which sounds like an interesting new mechanic.
While it may not see players teleporting through regions, the idea of re-using a battle royale map to make a Zombies mode is eerily reminiscent Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Outbreak. With the TranZit Diner featuring, it should feel at least a bit familiar to old school players. The mode will offer special rewards like a zombie Tank Dempsey skin and a special blueprint for players to collect. A special event will come later in Season 6 as well, with a Zombie version of Richtofen and another blueprint able to be collected. While it remains to be seen if it is as replayable as traditional, round-based Zombies, Undead Siege does sound like it will fit well with the mobile game’s style. For better or worse, it seems like players can expect a brand-new experience from the mode due to its unique "5 days" premise.
While Call of Duty Zombies characters have been in Call of Duty Mobile for some time now, it seems like they are taking on a more prominent role inside this mode. In the first teaser for Undead Siege, the likes of Richtofen, Nikolai, and Dempsey can all be heard talking about “fragmented universes.” Given that these characters were incredibly popular but have not been seen since Tag Der Toten, hearing their voices again serves as a thrilling surprise for Zombies fans.
While Takeo is not heard in the trailer, as voice actor Tom Kane has sadly suffered a stroke, fans should be glad to hear a majority of the Primis crew once again. With the original voice actors reprising their roles, it feels as if the group never left. While it is unclear if a full-on easter egg quest will be added in this new mode, it would make sense. After all, having the actors come back just to record dialogue for a 30 second teaser seems unlikely, meaning that the Primis crew could have a lot to do inside of this new game mode. They could also talk to the player over the radio during matches of Undead Siege, though this is purely speculation.
Either way, being able to control or fight alongside the original cast could be a huge incentive to try this mode, as many were connected to the old characters. While this new story will likely not be canon, as nothing else in Call of Duty Mobile has been, it is still fresh content with the classic characters. As such, while their official stories may be finished, this mode could be treated as a fun “what if” scenario for the Zombies community. While fans will need to wait a few more days to see if the mode is a hit, having some original content with the Primis crew gives it a good chance for success.
