Since the end of 2020, gamers and PC enthusiasts have struggled to get hold of new hardware, especially an AMD or Nvidia graphics card. However, that hasn't stopped either company putting out new products. Recently, unconfirmed details emerged about Nvidia's follow up to its 30 series. Now, AMD, wanting to keep up with the GPU arms race, has confirmed that a new card in its Radeon 6000 series is coming soon, after rumors and leaked images began to circulate at the beginning of July.
AMD says it will be launching the new RX 6600 XT on August 11. Though this one will be slightly less powerful than its 6700 XT contemporary, the company promises that this GPU will set a "new standard" for 1080p gaming. A source speculates that despite this, the 6600 XT should still be comfortable running games at 1440p.

The tech giant is confident that this latest graphics card will be more than capable of running games like Doom Eternal at 1080p, given that it has "1.7 times" more lift on its predecessor. The RX 6600 XT will have 9.6 teraflops of RDNA 2, more than the 5600 XT which has 7.19 teraflops. The 6600 XT will also come with 8 GB GDDR6, again more than the last model which had 6 GB. Perhaps one of the most intriguing aspects of it is the price, which is due to be released to an RRP of just under $380.
Given that higher spec graphics cards are often much more expensive, this could be a deciding factor for gamers who are on a budget but want a new card. Take something like the Nvidia 3080 Ti which was priced at $1199 upon release. The 3080 Ti has a much higher spec than the 6600 XT, but the latter is likely to be attractive for gamers who are not in the market for a product that's going to cost more than a grand.
The question that may be on a lot of people's lips will be whether or not the graphics card will be easy to get hold of once it's out. Despite the deficit that's been ravishing the hardware and tech industry for months now, word is starting to spread that GPU prices are beginning to fall, and availability may be on the rise too. PC gamers can only hope that the market begins to improve sooner rather than later, especially with AMD and Nvidia starting to push out new products. It would seem pointless to release new hardware at a time when no one can even get hold of it.
The AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT is due to launch on August 11.
