If you've been playing a lot of Minecraft and you're getting a bit bored, try out these things!

Now that Minecraft's developer Mojang is a subsidiary of Microsoft, it opens up new avenues for a sequel. Although the thought has been entertained, it appears as if Microsoft has no plans to make the game into a series. Instead, spin-off games like Minecraft: Story Mode and Minecraft Dungeons have carried on the Redstone torch. Still, there's no shortage of fun things to occupy oneself with while playing.

Minecraft is one of the best-selling games of all time. Outside of mining and building are perilous places like the Nether world and the End. In Survival, players must forage to survive an onslaught of mobs and starvation. For players who have logged countless hours into the game already and seeking other things to do—here are some amusing options for those bored and eager for new Minecraft experiences.

Updated July 30th, 2021 by Stephen LaGioia: The blocky sandbox epic known as Minecraft has remained timelessly entertaining for many gamers old and young. Dating all the way back to its more humble Alpha roots over a decade ago, the game has captivated players with its rewarding progression and expansive, free-flowing gameplay.

This momentum has continued largely thanks to a steady trickle of updates and added features since, leading all the way up to part one of the recent Caves & Cliffs release in June 2021. Ironically, while there remains a seemingly endless amount of things to do, gamers can find themselves overwhelmed or bored, seeking a new activity to mix things up. With this in mind, it seemed appropriate to refresh this list and highlight even more fun things to do in Minecraft.

15 Venture Out And Go Exploring

While many enjoy the building and mining aspects of Minecraft, the game often thrives when played more like a treacherous survival adventure. Make a point to get prepared with some solid equipment and survival goods, and venture outward.

Simply going on a long hike for exploration or slaying baddies can be thrilling, especially during the more hostile conditions of the night. It's a good way to bump up the excitement and test one's resolve. Not only this but plenty of awesome new landmasses can be discovered in this endlessly expanding world. Bring a compass or build a towering beacon as a frame of reference so getting lost isn't an issue.

14 Build A Highway

Though it might be a bit tedious to some, the simple act of constructing a long highway can be a good way to occupy oneself and aid in exploration as well. Since there's no shortage of cobblestone in Minecraft, settle on using that as the foundation and get to building. This can provide a central focus for a time and act as a handy navigation tool. Railroads can be built on the surface for faster navigation.

A tall enough highway can also double as a wall to ward off unwanted foes and bar them from a town or safe area.

13 Make A Farm

Though this part of the game isn't quite as detailed as the likes of Stardew Valley or Harvest Moon, an overlooked part of this sandbox is the ability to plant seeds within its sands and dirt. One can create a farm and harvest a bounty of crops with just a handful of simple steps.

Create a fenced-in region of roughly 20-40 blocks, then dig several rows that will act as water canals. After these are filled with water, use a hoe to till the dirt, and right-click on the tilled land while holding seeds. Bone meal can speed up this action. Harvest the crops by left-clicking with the hoe, and collect the bounty. Crops such as wheat, melons, pumpkins, and even carrots can be grown.

12 Build A Cobblestone Generator

Though cobblestone is fairly easy to come by when mining and exploring the vast Minecraft caverns, sometimes it's nice to have a ready supply at one's immediate disposal. With just a few easy steps involving a small pit, a bucket of lava, and a bucket of water, a cobblestone generator can be constructed. The water makes constant contact with the flowing lava, creating an instant block of cobblestone. This principle can be applied on a more advanced level to generate obsidian as well.

This handy guide delves into more detail regarding the steps involved to make this simple cobblestone contraption.

11 Try Out New Items And Features Added

One notable thing to do in Minecraft after a recent update is to play around with any new additions that have been released. Newly-added content can range from entire new biomes like The End to various new items and features. This already huge game continues to grow and expand, so it's always a good idea to delve back in and explore the new happenings, especially after some time off.

The recent 1.17 update alone includes a slew of new items including a land-scanning Spyglass, Glowing Sign, Glow Berries, and Tinted Glass.

10 Slay The Ender Dragon

Arriving in The End, players are met face to face with Minecraft's most powerful foe. The Ender Dragon is a mythological creature that is considered the final boss in Minecraft. The Ender Dragon spits fireballs and flies swiftly throughout the area. Even in Peaceful mode, the Ender Dragon can cause damage.

Getting to this boss isn't easy as players must do more than merely build a Nether Portal. The End is similar to the Nether world since it doesn't have a day and night cycle. However, it's recommended to have diamond armor, a diamond sword, tons of potions, and golden apples before facing the Ender Dragon.

9 Build A Roller Coaster

Minecraft's titular feature of mining extends to mine carts. Despite being a basic thing to do in the game, players often overlook it. Add in a dose of imagination, and those minecarts and rails can be transformed into a roller coaster fun ride.

Think of it as a monorail except with Redstone tracks and ups and downs at incredible speeds. Roller coasters in Minecraft can be custom-themed and colored to provide a thrilling experience like none other.

8 Mine For Diamonds

Finding diamonds beneath level 16 is possible, but they are most commonly found in layers 5-12. Diamonds serve as the most durable material for a piece of armor or sword and the most efficient for mining with a pickaxe.

Especially if you plan to go mob hunting in the Nether world, having diamond gear is a must-have. The thrill you experience finding a diamond is much like catching a fish in a sparse lake. Only if you go swimming in a lava lake, you'll roast.

7 Try Out The Latest Mods

If you're growing bored of Minecraft, then there are plenty of options for broadening your horizons. The modding community has put together an abundance of mods to enhance the Minecraft experience.

LOTSOMOBS puts away the long days of seeing chicken and squid everywhere. Biomes in the game become more realistic with the introduction of twenty-five mobs. There are at least fifteen mods that make Minecraft feel brand new.

6 Play With Friends

Building in Minecraft with friends is highly recommended if you're feeling bored. Playing with friends lets you brainstorm together to build the most intricate designs. Especially in Survival mode, having a friend who has your back is essential.

Getting bored of playing Minecraft while creating the same house designs? Find a fellow villager with a wild imagination to take those designs to the next level.

5 Make Renovations To Your House

Already built a house that looks immaculate? Think again! Minecraft has numerous texture packs, whether it's on PC or console, that can enhance the house's appearance. Do some renovations to an already built home to show off those creative and architectural chops amongst the growing number of other user-made Minecraft houses on the web.

Does that house even have a fridge? There are a variety of lesser-known items that can be put into a home. If that doesn't satisfy, build a patio, or a fancy storage room.

4 Build A City

Why stop at a single house when you can design an entire city? Limiting oneself to the architecture of a single home is not nearly as rewarding as a city. More time will need to be spent, even if simply creating the buildings' exterior. The amount of landscaping time will deter many players, which is why it might be better to try it in Minecraft's Creative mode.

Choose which era the city should be based on, choose the right texture pack, and build away! It's worth noting that an urban metropolis might take longer than a rural area.

3 Try Out Creative Mode

Those who have been handling Survival mode for some time should really be a natural in Creative mode. One can avoid being bogged down in Survival by making things easier in this creative sandbox; a mode that lets players create and destroy objects instantly and simply.

With the entire item selection within arm's reach, players can build whatever their minds can conjure absent the looming threat of enemy mobs. This ease and open-ended features allow players to really flex their creative muscles and go to town on building creation.

2 Create Redstone Contraptions

Redstone proves to be a valuable commodity in Minecraft for those who know how to use it. Popular Redstone contraptions include Redstone piston doors that open automatically, super smelters that improve wait times, and a zero-loss sugarcane farm.

Creating Redstone contraptions is a little more involved than the game's other tasks. One can also make a dungeon farm, which is built around a mob spawner. With Redstone as its propeller, dungeon farms produce an endless supply of items without the need to kill each mob.

1 Build A Massive Pyramid

Building a pyramid might be as dull as watching paint dry, yet that won't stop many from accomplishing what our ancestors did in ancient times. Players can build a virtual replica of the Great Pyramid of Giza, an era-defining pyramid, and what's left of the ancient Seven Wonders of the World.

Building a pyramid is recommended in Minecraft's Creative mode unless one favors laboring for hundreds of hours working in Survival. Nevertheless, each version of a pyramid is momentous and worthwhile. It can be quite scenic while also serving as a reference point for navigation.
