An incredibly creative Pokemon fan showcases their short animation clip featuring Dawn and her Piplup on a high-seas adventure.

Now that Pokemon has been around for so many years, some of its fans have grown up to be talented artists that are inspired by the franchise from their childhood. Now, these superfans are showing off their incredible Pokemon art to the world in very creative ways, piquing the interest of similar fans worldwide.

One such fan who goes by the name Dozyo on Reddit recently shared a clip they made of an edit of Dawn and Piplup from the anime series. All of this is part of an "Anim Challenge" for this month organized by online animation hub Agora. In the clip, Dawn and Piplup are sailing on the high seas in a glossy 3D environment looking for Pokemon.

Towards the end, a wild Milotic jumps out of the water and leaps over the boat majestically, and faces off against Dawn. In the end, Dawn uses a quick ball to catch the Milotic and it works successfully, giving them a final moment of celebration.

Many fans responded to the video with positive comments praising the artist for their passion and hard work. Some users said that this animation could come straight from a cutscene from a game and that Dozyo should be in charge of the art style for Shining Pearl and Brilliant Diamond. Other users even stated that the official animation should take notes on the quality of this short clip and focus more on providing better animation in the episodes.

One fan asked Dozyo how they animated this and they explained their specific process for creating the artistic detail for this Pokemon clip. Firstly, Dozyo animated the clip in Maya, and then cached an alembic of everything which was then exported into another software called Blender to do the shading. From there, they got the cartoon style from using the Lightning Boy Studios shader setup from LBS 2.1 version. Lastly, they had a friend assist them with the FX in Houdini.

The one thing Dozyo didn't originally make is the character rigs for Dawn, Piplup, and Milotic. Those assets are all posted on the Agora community page, however, Dozyo did make the boat that Dawn and Piplup sailed by themself. Fans interested in seeing more of the artist's work are welcome to follow them on Instagram and Twitter @dozyjim. Hopefully, this inspires Nintendo to reach this level of polish in future animations and encourages other fans to make their own fun Pokemon art projects as well.
