Fortnite has become synonymous with franchise crossovers, with the battle royale title featuring a myriad of characters from other IP. Players have seen pro sports stars added to the game, in addition to plenty of gaming and film icons, and even prominent Fortnite players themselves. Now, the game appears to be doing a follow-up to a collaboration that happened a few seasons ago, adding two new characters from Street Fighter.
Epic Games' popular free-to-play title already has two of Street Fighter's biggest names in the form of Ryu and Chun-Li. The iconic Capcom characters were humorously recruited for Fortnite with a Season 5 trailer that showed Fortnite protagonist Agent Jonesy teleporting into an arcade cabinet and taking the pair of fighters with him. While Agent Jonesy doesn't seem to be a factor this time, World Warriors Cammy and Guile are set to drop in.

The Fortnite and Street Fighter crossover was initially teased with an image of the same arcade cabinet in the previously mentioned trailer. However, on screen was the character selection screen from Super Street Fighter 2, with the caption of "Here comes two new challengers." Fans speculated that Cammy would be one of the two, given a male and female character were added last time, and Cammy is the only other woman on the roster. The fan-favorite flat top himself, Guile, turns out to be the second character coming from the game. Fans have been quick to make fun of Guile's appearance, with the airman's hairstyle looking more ridiculous than usual.
Unlike The Suicide Squad's Bloodsport skin, which releases today, both of the new Street Fighter skins come with a variant. For Cammy, the Delta Red member comes in her classic green-and-red outfit, along with a Tactical Cammy variant and a Borealis Backer Back Bling. For Guile, the classic fighter comes in his classic green military fatigues, with a "beach-ready" Glistening Guile variant and a pixelated K.O. Back Bling. A gear bundle is also available, which includes Guile's Knuckle Buster Pickaxe, Cammy’s Delta Red Bowie Blade Pickaxe, and the V-Trigger Vector Glider -- inspired by the original Guile stage.
Fortnite has been on a roll as of late when it comes to putting out new content. In addition to the release of DC's Bloodsport, and the announcement of Street Fighter's Cammy and Guile, Epic released the game's 17.30 update patch today. The new update adds several significant pieces of content, with the biggest component arguably the new Grab-itron weapon. The new device allows players to pull in an object to float in front of them, move around with it, and then launch it at opponents. The patch also updated the Slurpy Swamp POI, which is now slowly getting abducted by the alien mothership.
The addition of the new Street Fighter characters joins the ever-growing roster of gaming legends in Fortnite. While the skins officially arrive on August 7, players can enter the Cammy Cup to win the skin early on August 5. With the litany of new crossovers and the announcement of the in-game Ariana Grande concert, Fortnite continues to assert itself as a powerhouse of pop culture.
Fortnite is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
